Calling all the Pregnant PS''ers

Ladies love the pics!!!

Mara my husband has a theory that all babies are born looking like one of three things, a monkey, Winston Churchil, or Leonid Breshnev. I''m hoping your friend''s baby has disproven his theory!

KT great pics! It''s nice to have a photog in the "family"! Good luck in the coming week!!

Steph- Evan is a doll! Love the photo with Andrew. He looks so thrilled and proud. Too cute!

Big brother holding him for the first time!
I LOVE this pic, MANY congrats to you all Steph, I am delighted for you!!!!!!!!!!

Steph, your boys are so handsome! Congrats again -- I know you must be over the moon.

BIG NEWS HERE: I got up this morning, did some stuff, then got in the shower. Afterwards, I was getting dressed and stopped to pee again -- and my water broke. This has never happened to me before -- with the other kids, contractions started first and it was a while until my water broke. I''m not having contractions, or if I am, they''re just too light to make an impression.

Normally, this wouldn''t be a big deal...but we''re in the middle of a snow storm! We already have a couple of inches and are supposed to get between 6 and 10 before tonight.

Plus, my midwife is with another woman! It figures between the change in pressure and the full moon. So now I''m just hanging out, and doing nothing because every time I get up, I gush all over the place. LOVELY.

I''ve attached a pic of what our back porch looks like right now. I don''t think you can see how hard the snow is coming down, though.

RPS, yay! This baby is coming! Now, tell that other woman to hurry up and give birth already!

Steph, Evan is gorgeous and I LOVE that huge grin on Andrew''s face!

YAY RPS!!!! Best wishes for a safe and peaceful delivery and a wonderful healthy baby!!!!

RPS, how exciting! It sounds like your baby is on the way!

YAY RPS...you are so next! I am going to be last I tell you ladies. Esp with QT getting induced Monday. This kid is crazy stubborn just like Mom and Dad.

Question on the water breaking, that is when the hospital tells us to come in immediately when it happens because there''s no way of knowing how much fluid is left or what condition the baby is in, how does that work with a home birth? Would your midwife typically just come over immediately or are you supposed to get contractions first then she comes? Just curious. Greg is totally paranoid that my water will break in the shower and I won''t notice. I am like...guess it could happen right??

So again last nite again we thought it might be IT. I was getting contractions between 1-2 minutes long and pretty frequently but again still not painful. Greg wanted me to call L&D since this is the 3rd/4th night it''s happened. But again it isn''t PAINFUL at all and they don''t seem to get any more consistent. We went to bed and I did have some pretty uncomfortable cramping and pain in my lower front, but then...ahhh you guessed it, intermittent sleep. And then here we are 8am again next morning. It''s just so funny how every night it''s the same thing.

On another note I lost more colored plug mucus 2x yest so I guess that means I am dilating more, I hope anyway! And when I stand and walk I do have some crazy pressure like his head is going to pop out. Everyone thinks he will come today, on his due date. I wouldn''t mind him waiting til tomorrow so that he has his own bday, but at this point I don''t even care! I just want him to come out...I am a little worried that all this weird intermittent labor somehow is affecting him and his head...but he is still pretty active and Greg points out my water isnt broken so he''s still intact even if he is getting squeezed around. If it''s the same thing again today I might call L&D later and just make sure they don''t want to see me, but I would assume they''d say no.

In the meantime I am bouncing and rolling around on the ball lol. QT...hope it works for you or me or BOTH!!!

KT...i love that B/W photo!!

Oh my- so much has been going on. I dig all the pics- looking good, ladies!

Steph, your boys are just precious! Andrew is now a big brother, how cool. Enjoy your time with your LO, and I hope that your recovery is quick.

Lulu- Love, love, Love your belly pic! It brought tears to my eyes.

RPS- YAHOO for your water breaking. please keep us posted as things progress.

It''s such an exciting time around here- can''t wait for the next PS baby...

I forgot who asked (sorry!)- it was a bit confusing when I wrote that we were keeping the gender a secret. I meant to say we''re keeping it a SURPRISE! I''m a total planner and it''s going to drive me crazy, but I resolve to stay strong. It seems to be a given that most parents want to know the gender, so Docs tend to run with it. So I have to remember to mention during my Doc appts that we dont want to know.

I''m still getting over this pesky cold, but I''m not letting it take another weekend from me! we''re about to head out the door to meet friends for a leisurely hike.

Have a great day, everyone!

yay! sounds like several babies are on the way!!!

Mara, I don't know the protocol for home births (especially since this isn't the first baby for rps--I'm guessing her MW will get there sooner than later) but if it's your first baby, you don't have to rush to the hospital if your water breaks unless you are GBS+ or there is meconium in the fluid. You can take your time, take a shower, eat, watch tv, pack your last minute stuff and bake a cake until your contractions go to 5/1/1 or you are in serious pain. If you read back a million pages, we were all in labor with TGal! Her water broke and she continued to post here until it was time for her to go. If it's not your first baby, they tell you to go immediately because your labor will most likely go must faster.

rps, good luck!! Hope it's quick and easy!

good luck rps! can''t wait to meet your little one!

hang in there mara!! it will be soon!

Hello Ladies,

I am a lurker on this thread but wanted to pop in with a question. First, though I have to say congrats to Steph, and wish Mara and RPS good luck in their impending deliveries! And, best wishes to all other preggos and new moms on here.

I had my 7 week scan yesterday, baby looked great at 6w6d and hb of 154. However, they found I had a small subchorionic bleed. I am wondering if anyone here has had experience with these? I had a m/c last year when the baby measured 9w5d and there was apparently a lot of bleeding around the gestational sac. I am worried, and wondering if anyone here had a subchorionic bleed and then carried to later in term or full term? Would also appreciate the medical perspective as I know we have some doctors and nurses on here. TIA!

-Kit

Yay RPS. Good luck on an easy and smooth labor and delivery.

Mara, colored MP is good news. Maybe baby will come today.

As for me, I am getting contractions but still nothing really uncomfortable. Plus I haven''t lose much MP, so I''ll most likely be the last to go.

mara, there is no way you can miss it when your water breaks. it''s not always a huge gush like they show in the movies but it''s usually a pretty solid stream of liquid and it will continue, even after you get out of the shower. trust me, you''ll know

SO happy for you!

curly... interesting because at my hospital they stressed like 100000 times in our class and at appts that if your water breaks, to come in immediately. otherwise they said sure stay home as long as you want (i am B neg) until you feel like you need med intervention to proceed. but they said water breaks you have to come in ASAP regardless of anything else (contractions, pain etc). they said it had to do with not knowing what state the baby is in, how much fluid is lost, and referenced a handful of cases. so anyway...that is why i asked..because that was the ONE case they said to come in regardless of anything else and it permanently stuck in our heads.

mrs salvo, good to know..i told greg and now he feels better lol.

QT i have had colored mucus for a few days now, i guess it''s all ''progress'' right???

Once your water breaks they want the baby to be delivered within 48 hours, thus to lessen the risk of infection, etc...

When my water broke with Ash it was a gush, then more of a trickle. My water didn''t break on it''s own with Rob.

QT- Contractions?? Maybe LO will be here before Monday afterall??
Mara- Crazy about the contractions at night... maybe he just prepping you

In my news, when I got home last night I sat on the couch to relax and immediately had BH. It went away, and then about 15 minutes later, I had another. I wasn''t doing anything. Then another. I decided to get up and clean up the apartment and they stopped. Has one last night before bed, but that was it. I did my fitness class this morning and my stomach was hard pretty much the whole time, but I haven''t had any tightening in a few hours. Weird... I am going to call the nurse on Monday. This just seems like way too often, especially since it happens anytime I get up from a chair or car.

I thought that maybe it was just the baby, but I can''t imagine that my entire uterus would be hard if that were the case?

Mere...torturing me is more like it.

re: BH contractions, I forget how far along you are but I started getting them around 29 weeks. Not consistently but usually at night when my body was most tired, bloated, belly was hardest. My belly also got really hard a lot in general at night, esp after eating. I just never worried since I never had discharge, bleeding, or anything like that...figured it was normal.

We just took a 30 min walk and now we are discussing DTD...HAHAA. Let''s see how this goes.

LOL good luck! I finally convinced my DH to try it with me last night, and even though it was nice (it had been 11 weeks!), it was rather uncomfortable. Worth a try though to get your LO moving on out!

Steph, your new baby Evan is SO precious, what a sweet face. And how adorable that Andrew is so excited to be a big brother, I love that picture! I agree with whoever it was that said he was going to be a lady killer hehe.

RPS, I hope your LO can hold out until the midwife can make it - what happens if you go into active labor and she''s still with another mom? If you aren''t in labor at all, can you just hang out for a few days even though your water is broken? Home birth has so many questions I hadn''t thought about!

I am lounging at home today. I barely got out of the shower and dressed and it''s almost 1pm lol. I love weekends.

Kaleigh & Mara are right, it''s because they want the baby delivered within 24 hours after the water breaks, otherwise there is a great risk of infection which could harm the baby.

Unlike what Kaleigh was told, were told in our class that the baby had to be OUT 24 hours after the water broke, not 48. I think that''s why my birth experience was not good. My water broke at 5 am, and we went to the hospital 8 hours later at 1 pm (mine was a very gentle trickle so I wasn''t sure what was happening). An hour later, at 2 pm, they started me on Pitocin because I hadn''t had a single contraction or begun labor, and they kept stressing that the baby MUST be out within 24 hours of the water breaking. I was fully dilated that night and started pushing at midnight, and pushed unsuccessfully until 4:30 am when DS was delivered with suction assistance. Around 4 am the dr. started talking about a c-section at 5 am if the vacuum didn''t work, because they had to get the baby out within 24 hours of my water breaking.

RPS, KT, Mara, QT.

RPS will go first??
Kaleigh, I think that 48 hours is probably safe for most people, but OBs and hospitals are so jumpy these days about lawsuits that they must have changed the timeline to 24 hours just to be extra cautious.

I wish that I had been given more time to progress into labor naturally - I wonder if that would have given me a better chance at a less medicalized delivery.

I did some reading on it when I came home from the hospital, and most midwives will let women wait for labor for several days with broken water, as long as NOTHING is inserted into the vagina. Apparantly, the reason that the risk of the infection jumps so high in hospitals is because there are doctors and nurses sticking their hands up there every hour, which greatly increases your risk of infection. Midwives don''t check the cervix once water breaks - they just wait for contractions to begin, and they will wait up to 3 days, I believe.

I am 27 weeks, and haven't had any discharge or bleeding either. I am normally a "Don't worry unless it hurts" kinda person, but since I'm worried that it might be affecting the baby and I could have no idea, I figured I might want to call, just in case.

Discussing DTD... lol! I hope that you all were able to come to an agreement!

ETA: Also, I'm not sure if you ever replied... but did you do your Zumba at home? or at one of those aerobic centers that they have, the huge classes? I saw a info-mercial the other day and it really intrigued me! Are you going to start again after your LO in born?

Thanks girls for the sweet comments! Little E already has my heart
30.gif
. Andrew loves him too! I promise to get back to everyone and post the birth story, but I am literally going and going 100 miles an hour. His birth weight dropped quite a bit, so we''ve already been to the ped. this morning and am nursing and bottle feeding every hour and a half or so...crazy. We had to go out and buy preemie stuff today since he dropped to 5.7...not even the newborn diapers and clothes were small enough, so lots of work. I keep lurking though to see who is next. Oh and all the bellies this week were adorable!

I was with one of the largest teaching hospitals in London and we were told to phone in if waters broke and then wander down when it was convenient unless there was meconium. Amniotic fluiod continues to be produced so it's not like you run out.

I went in about 3 hours after mine broke to be tested to make sure it was amniotic fluid. Then I was booked for an induction if I hadn't delivered within 36 hours. They start IV antibiotics at 36 hours as well.

No internals are done until you are in obvious established labour and you are told not to put anything inside your hoohaa to minimise infection, then they send you back home to wait.

Although I had ctx start an hour or so after the waters went, and they were full on by 24 hours in, it was a full 53 hours before I gave birth. I guess we're less litigious over here!
28.gif

Kit - both Mela and I had subchoronic haemotomas and bleeding at around 7 weeks. They resolve on their own.

steph - evan is just adorable...and andrew is the cutest big bro around! you have a beautiful family

mara - yay for more progress! lol on the "discussion". we had the same thoughts on the shower thing, thanks for bringing it up.

coming in - we were told 5 scenarios for hightailing it in:
1)water breaks
2)5/1/1
3)bleeding
4)baby not moving
5)ummm...i forgot

. looks like i''ll for sure be at the brunch!! the contractions slowly spaced out through the day and by bedtime they were happening every 20 minutes or so. i was worried i wouldn''t be able to sleep again because of the reflux.. no need cuz as soon as my head hit the pillow, i was out like a light for 10 hours, briefly opened one eye to check the time, then zonked out for another 2. i''m a good sleeper
9.gif
so today, i''m back to my usual ridiculously comfortable for someone at 38.5 week self
20.gif
not a single contraction, no pelvic pain or pressure, scooting around easy as pie. never thought that''d be something disappointing to me.
40.gif
anyway, we''re going to go out for dinner again tonight, then hubbs better have his turkey baster ready!
