Calling all the Pregnant PS''ers

I''m sorry, SS

What was their reason for rescheduling?

Vent ahead....

I just got a call from the US scheduling. My appt has to be moved to the 22nd. It''s very hard to get in for an US appt because they have limited availability so we scheduled a few weeks ago. Now with the measuring big I feel like I NEED to get in. I am so POd! So, now my US won''t be until I''m almost 24 weeks.
38.gif

I just feel like crying.
That stinks... I''d call them back and ask to be put on a cancelation list if anything becomes available before the 22nd. It''s worth a try any way.

SS- I''m sorry to hear your U/S was changed.

Re: Your measurements... who is telling you that you are measuring big? is this something that you are doign on your own? Also, are you measuring your uterus, or your stomach?

HH- Glad to hear it went well. Just to let you know, rainbows and unicorns in a doctor can be ohh so annoying as well! My doctor''s assistant is like this, and it makes me feel like she sees me as a 2 yr old.

Don''t these people know the perfect mix of excitement and professionalism that we expect?!?!
2.gif

Pandora- I didn''t know you had the swelling! I feel so bad for my sister. She is TINY everywhere else. I have a feeling that if I saw her right now, it would look like someone had stuffed leg warmers inside of her skin. She said the rest of her body, from above her mid claf, is perfectly fine... but her ankles and feet are just ginormous!
It''s weird and I don''t think there is rhyme or reason to why some people get it and not others. I''m 5ft 10" and tend to the skinny side, my SIL is 5ft 2" and obese. She didn''t even have to stop wearing her e-ring, and I couldn''t get a pair of maternity trousers past my knees by the end!

The last week everywhere started to puff up, but otherwise it was just from the knees down. It''s a bit surreal, like you''ve borrowed someone else''s legs!

BTW, I tried everything to get it to go down - even put TENS machine on them wondering if it would help... it didn''t... compression stockings were the best thing.

Tell your sister she has my sympathies and that it does go away once the baby is born!

Has anyone heard from Lindsey? It''s been a few weeks since she''s posted. I hope she and baby Andrew are well.

Ditto - that''s too bad that they postponed your appointment. That is so frustrating.

I was thinking of Lindsey and Andrew the other day as well... hoping everything is going OK for them.

SS, maybe your docs can pull rank and request an earlier ultrasound for medical reasons? Hmm, now you have me worried about scheduling my 20 wker. The docs have given me the paperwork twice now.

Mere your poor sister. Bleh to the feet!

Good luck drk! Maybe more baking, labor gods feel you can do better than your first offering?

HH congrats on your sucessful test! Were the pics more detailed and clear than the usual ones? I'm hoping, cause the casual-use ultrasound machine at our docs does not give the clearest pictures. I can't imagine getting a good, accurate measurement of a tiny part on it! LOL on the ultrasound tech with shoe-like personality. I guess its their job, right?

I think I'm getting some relief from the ms, THANK YOU creatures of the ether that control such things. Have been able to cut back (but not come off of) the meds. Its definitely not complete relief, and I still have bloating, heartburn, and swollen tummy symptoms, but I'll take it.

I went to a bachelorette party weekend last weekend, and miraculously survived YAY!! Could not have done that a few weeks ago. I felt a little bad as there were not one but two newly preggo ladies in the party of six. Did not make for the most drunken of fests. We both called up the bride in the days just before the party to let her know, and will both hopefully be walking down the aisle in our BM dresses with sizeable bumps. Bride was great and cheerful about it, but I still felt like it was not the ideal bachelorette sendoff. I also felt a little bad (pity-party for me) seeing the other preggo lady, she is a few weeks farther along than me and still in her usual cloths though perhaps little more busty than usual. I have this massive beer-gut looking squishy stomach and am not able to button most of my pants (or even zip many of them). Of course I know more belly is coming, but even this squishy one is really uncomfortable! Will it go down or just slowly transition to a more firm version?

Speaking of, now my sister is stressing me out. Hubby and I were planning on waiting to tell family until April, but in a fit of hormonal meltdown and nausea I told my sister a week and a half ago and now she's pressuring me to tell the rest of the fam. (Especially after telling the few friends last weekend, which was basically the only way possible to attend the bachelorette party with close college friends and not drink.) There's no really good reason not to tell fam yet, I just don't feel ready and was hoping to put off the mania a little while longer, hopefully to when I feel better all around and can appropriately deal with excited people. I mean, it'll be great in that they'll all be excited, but that takes energy to deal with and I'm not sure I'm ready to deal yet.

I am convined that the word Pregnant means, "Incapable of dealing with stupid people (ie, anyone involved with customer service)" in some other language!

I will call tomorrow to see if I can get on a cancellation list, I hadn''t even thought of it. thanks. I don''t know why I''m being rescheduled. A woman called today and asked if I "could" reschedule and when I didn''t agree immediately she said, "well, it doesn''t matter if you can. It''s what we''re doing."

Meresal~ At my appt a couple days ago the dr took the fundus measurement and it was 25+ and I am actually 21+ weeks.

I''m still irritated.

Cara I''m so so glad you''re starting to feel a bit better! My appetite is starting to regulate itself. I go through phases now where I''m just not hungry at all. Usually this is around dinner time so I have to force myself to eat a little something before bed or I''ll wake up at 2 starving. Of course I go to bed at dinner time these days! I can''t wait for the mysterious second trimester energy to kick in.

I measured a day ahead on the u/s yesterday so now I''m 12 weeks 3 days, instead of two. Does anyone know if the third trimester starts in your 13th week (as in, I''m in my 13th week now) or when you''re 13 weeks? I''ve heard 13/3-4 tossed around elsewhere on the net.

The u/s was better than the one in my doctor''s office, but I don''t know how much of that was the machine or how much was the baby being bigger and more developed. The space at the back of the neck that they were measuring was clear as day on the monitor and looked huge, but without knowing what a problematic measurement looks like, you can''t easily make a judgment looking at it on the screen. The tech said if anything was really wrong we wouldn''t have been given printed pictures, nor would we have gone on to have the blood drawn. I''m assuming something major would bump you right into CVS eligibility. Oh and the doctor really stressed the importance of the three parts of the screen, the NT Scan, the blood work at 12 weeks and the blood work at 16 weeks. Apparently lots of people have an abnormal result for parts one and two, but by part 3 everything is A-OK. Unfortunately 16 weeks is past the point for the CVS and you''d have to have an amnio done if in fact you had an abnormal result at that stage. So I really felt like it was damned if we do, damned if we don''t. We''ve decided that we will pursue additional testing if we have an abnormal outcome from the scan.

But yes, we were able to see little feet and toes, the nose and ear cups and I ''think'' I have a pic with b/g anatomy. Unfortunately the angle of the shot isn''t really conducive to guessing the angle of the dangle, but I still think it''s a girl.

LOL, I saw your post last night on the site that shall not be named and showed TJ saying "SEE-I''m not a weirdo for being pissed off at the world!"

I hate people these days, the slightest thing sets me off. I''m sorry people were such a$$hats to you.

Indigestion has begun...last night I had revenge of the McFlurry from about 8-2. I was complaining to DH this morning. He was out last night and I left out the part about the McFlurry. He opened the trash can this morning and goes "A McFlurry? Really?" Whoops!

LOL! My husband had one of those moments last week when he opened the glove box in my car and a box of oatmeal cream pies fell out!

HH... the only people I am getting frustrated with are people I don''t know. It''s the complete opposite with everyone I see in my day to day life.

DH has been telling me that it is just my hormones, but seriously, these people are just incompetent. (When someone asks you to repeat your birthday twice, and then asks you if you a SURE. Am I supposed to not be irritated by THAT??? It''s MY birthday!! Yes, I AM sure!!) It really isn''t me... but it''s like they are hunting me out because I am showing up on some "short fuse" radar.

Pupp- Sorry to hear about the indesgestion. Yuck... and a McFlurry... ice cream is my weakness...

Hi ladies

I''m back from Mexico and very, very happy
9.gif
. It was a great trip. Lots of sunshine, relaxation, quality time with my husband. and tacos. I love tacos!

and prenatal massage. I love prenatal massage! I''ve already looked into some places back here in DC that can hopefully work out some more kinks a little later.

Hope that everyone is feeling healthy, if a little irritated at times
2.gif

and I''m pretty sure that Lindsey and Andrew are doing just fine - though hopefully she''ll check in herself soon!

p.s. those swollen ankle pics are terrifying

Quick question:

DH gave me a gift cert for a prenatal massage for Valentine''s day. I haven''t used it yet because I''m contemplating when the best time would be. During which part of your pregnancy did you get a massage? Would you have liked it more at a different time?

On one hand I''m afraid of being too fat to fit the table, but on the other hand I''m thinking that a massage when I''m REALLY uncomfortable would be great.

i''ve had one in each trimester. i would suggest doing it near the end of the 2nd or in the third.

in the first i had a 30 minute. it was just ok. i wanted more time. it was over too quickly for me to benefit much.
in the second i had a 60 minute that rocked my world. it was heavenly. i felt better for a few days. the massage itself was perfect and i''m thinking about going again to that place [it''s 2.5 hours away]
then, i had another 60 minute just last week [third tri]. it was pretty good. i felt good after. wasn''t as good as the one i had during my second trimester.

so to wrap up my rambling, i think it depends on how good the massage is to begin with + i highly suggest going for an hour, not thrity mintues.

Welcome back, lulu! I''m glad your trip was fabulous - tacos and prenatal massage, can it get any better than that?

SS, I haven''t had one, but my DH has given me backrubs a few times in the past few weeks and they have felt AMAZING. I would wait until you are truly in need of it, as opposed to just wanting it. The backrubs I got in the first two trimesters were nice, but they are nothing compared to the ones now. It just feels soooo good.

mmmmm massage....

Re: massage

I was completing my hands on portion of my massage schooling when I was prego with our first and was sooo lucky to be able to be massaged weekly with "trading massage" in class to "learn techniques"! I definately miss that this time around!!! Here I am at 27 weeks and haven''t made an appointment yet for a massage - I really need to do that since I get the alumni discount at the school clinic that I graduated from so its only $25 for an hour for me!!

On a side note- If you are going for your first prenatal massage and calling around please make sure that the person is certified - ESPECIALLY if you are 3rd Trimester as there are several points on your body that can not be stimulated or it can induce early labor. Also, ask if they have a normal table or a prenatal massage table (the prenatal table has a hole cut in it for your belly and also booby cutouts so you don''t smash those tender girsl) so you can FINALLY lay on your belly while getting pampered. It is AWESOME!!

Don''t get me wrong... side lying massage is better than nothing, but if the therapist doesn''t do it on a normal basis it won''t be as good as you may be expecting- there are much different techniques that need to be used to completely work the muscles correctly and get your $ out of the massage.

DH checked around for a certified prenatal masseuse. She has done it for years and has a special table, soo looking forward to laying on my stomach!! I was a bit concerned about 3rd tri massage because of possibly inducing labor.

Ok, so I was just looking up some info on foods to avoid - trying to see about healthy levels of seafood consumption - and came across this little gem:

What foods should I avoid during pregnancy?
Alcohol
Fish that may have high levels of methylmercury
Soft cheeses
Raw fish
Large amounts of caffeine-containing beverages
Anything that is not food. Some pregnant women may crave something that is not food, such as laundry starch or clay. Talk to your health care provider if you crave something that is not food.

I find this both frightening and hilarious.

anyone craving clay
3.gif

LOL, no I don''t crave clay, but I''ve always been an ice chewer. Apparently it''s a form of PICA and is a sign of iron deficiency. I can tell when I''m low because I''ll find the ice in my glass irresistible. Similarly, when my levels are good the ice holds no interest for me.

I had no idea chewing ice meant anything - I thought I just liked it because it was cold. I haven''t had any since I''ve been PG, though, so I must be ok.

At least you don''t eat your own hair
14.gif
I''ve heard of a lot of pregnant women suddenly pulling out and eating their own hair when PG. Yuck!

funny, i am iron deficient and have had no weird cravings. thank goodness! i''ve actually haven''t had any cravings at all this pregnancy.

LOL, lovelylulu, that's awesome! Avoid eating dirt, preggo lady.... I think Pandora had the pica among her many pregnancy burdens. Something about the coal-tar shampoo... and anemia... and hemorrhaging... yes, note to self: see doctor in case of desiring non-food items. And welcome back from your vacation, lulu, glad you had an awesome time.

Thanks HH I too am glad I'm feeling better. But boy I can go south in a hurry! I almost waited too long for lunch and had trouble getting there. But I've recovered. Oh, and I totally got schooled for eating ice by a parent during a parent-teacher conference when I was the teacher. He was a dentist, told me I was doing horrible things to my teeth.
7.gif
A little mortifying. I'm going with 14 weeks as the start of the second tri. Ya know, 40 weeks preggo and the first two don't really count. I figure I made it this far, I can wait a bit more. Also following babycenter counting, I avoid thinking of being in the twelfth week or in the fourteenth week, rather I just think 12w1d or something. Glad to hear we're going to get a nice detailed pic! I figured that had to be the case, as we are being sent to a special center for the NT, not even to the in-house radiology facility at my care provider.

OK, in today's news I have at least one pair of pants I can buttton again! No I did not acquire new pants but I think the bloat went down one iota. Ah, small blessings. Though I have graduated into my hubby's T-shirts for sleeping. And today I put on this sweater with horizontal stripes
23.gif

and looked totally preggo. If I stick to the looser solids I merely look fat, with a bigger bust than usual and er, a bigger belly? I think the day is soon approaching where some closet segregation of useless items is appropriate. And coming out of the closet, by means of verbal announcement or otherwise.
