Need your help please. I have never bought any sapphires and am now interested in getting one for stacking with my diamond band. Some PSers here have gotten their bands from Leslielsc on IG and I saw some of her sapphire bands that I like. She doesn’t have my size right now but she may get more stock in a month or so. These bands are vintage around 1960s in good condition. My question is around color. I don’t like dark or very dark sapphire. Prefer more medium vibrant shade. I like the medium blue tone band that she has as well as the lighter Ceylon one. I don’t know the source of the medium toned sapphires. Both colors are about the same price. In terms of retained value (not that I plan to resell them but more about value for $), is there a shade of blue that’s more valuable or desirable? Or is it just personal preference? I’m sharing a few pics to show the colors.

Any preference? I worry that the medium may look too dark in some light and Ceylon too light. This is rather difficult to decide since I can‘t see them in person.

Both top and bottom bands are medium shade in natural light:

Top & bottom medium shade in the sun:

Medium on top, Ceylon at the bottom:

Thanks in advance!

I think you’ll be splitting hairs with retained value. I wouldn’t chose one over the other for that purpose at all.

I’d get which you like more!

do you want to show what you’ll be stacking it with? I personally love the Ceylon band but it’s entirely personal preference. I love the lighter blue, but if you know you like a medium toned sapphire versus light or dark, that’s what I’d get.

finding a middle ground between these two will probably be tricky, but you could always ask if she can source something like that!

Thanks, @Cerulean! That’s good to hear. I’ve only purchased a few emeralds and rubies in the past and just got them based on the shade that I liked. I hope the sapphires turn out to be the same color or close to the pics in real life. It’s so hard to tell from the screen and the shade seems to change depending on where the pictures are taken. I’d prefer the blue of the middle photo (sun pic) but I think it’ll actually be darker in real life so may go with the Ceylon instead.

I’m hoping to pair it with this princess band. It’s about 3.25-3.5 mm wide. I was thinking of getting a 3mm carre diamond band but it may look too close the the princess? I’m hoping to stack 3 bands but don’t think they can fit comfortably on my fingers. The sapphire bands come in 3 or 4 mm width. The first 2 pics above are 3 mm and the last is 4 mm.

Oooh pretty! I will say - I think the mid-tone might add a nice contrast to your princess cut band! I also like vibrant blues too - I just haven't seen any that are KAPOW vibrant for these types of bands...the mid tone might be about as vibrant as a mid tone sapphire band gets esp at that price point. However, I think it is very pretty and would be surprised if it blacks out IRL. Sapphires love sun and none of them look electric all of the time (maybe...unless you are talking about crazy expensive Kashmirs)

Do you know if she has a return policy?

I also would highly recommend buying cheap fakes first to see how comfortable stacking is! I nearly bought one of the mid blues depicted as it was my size, but it was really helpful for me to see it visually (and I found it was TOO chunky with my wedding set)- maybe you could get a light blue and a mid/darker blue and see what looks nicer to your eyes? Obviously it is an approximation...

This is "mid blue" I bought...3mm

This is obviously a different style, but you could test what 4mm feels like and get a lighter blue tone (like the topaz or aquamarine)

@Cerulean, I saw your thread when you were trying the blue band from Amazon out. Did you end up getting anything to go with your wedding set?

I didn’t order the blue band as I’m in Canada and it was going to take 2-3 weeks to arrive. I ordered a few bands—2mm, 3mm and 4mm to try out with my ring. It seems that I can only take may be 1 more band or 2 more if the total are no more than 8mm. Even that it looks rather congested and the stack ends up close to my knuckle.

I think I may be able to do either 3 mm or 4 mm sapphire band with my existing princess and nothing else. As for comfort, I may have to go to a half hoop so it’s not pushing the sides of my fingers. She had a half hoop Ceylon band but it was sold already. The CZ rings I ordered are only 2mm thick so they feel okay but I think her sapphire bands are thicker than 2mm.

I think the difference in feeling between 2 and 4mm will be pretty noticeable

I didn’t end up getting anything - I’m plotting for a reset in the next few years and decided to wait

I also found 3mm to be uncomfortable with my stack (my wedding band is 2.7mm and my e ring is 2.5mm) - however when I tried on a 2mm band it felt much better

I think the lowest risk ways are to try on testers

In a way I’m glad she doesn’t have my size right now so I get a chance to really plan out what I really need. I usually just wear 1 ring and now that I haven’t been to the office since the pandemic started I‘m barely wearing any jewelry. These sapphire bands just look so pretty though. =)2

Trust me I get it! They are gorgeous. Definitely keep us posted as you explore options!

Personally, I went with 3mm. I had a 2mm previously and it felt too dainty. I haven't tried on a 4mm but i figured it'd be too tough for me to stack and I'd most likely end up wearing that as a stand alone band.

Here's a pic of the 2mm and 3mm band together.

They’re both lovely! @AnastasiaBeaverhausen, do you worry about the underside when you wear these eternity bands? I got myself 2 eternity bands recently and always felt worried whenever I wore them that I was goin to hit something and chip a stone. Some of Leslie‘s bands come in half hoop so I’m considering that too.

Yeah, I'm definitely pretty hard on my jewelry. So I only wear the eternity band when I'm feelin fancy or not with my toddler
