How does one differentiate a cameo cufflink meant for guys and one meant for girls?

is there such a thing?

Interesting question because shell cameo is traditionally a gem that is reserved for women.I have seen a few pieces for men from the victorian/edwardian periods that incorperated cameo.I personally think that intaglio carved onxy, tigereye, or lapis may make better cufflinks then shell cameo for mens jewelry today.

Regardless of gender, I don''t think a shell cameo would be suited for cufflinks. Too much banging around.

I am not a cameo expert by any means, but I don''t see a clear difference between cameos for the different genders. The more flowing, feminine designs will tend to appeal more to the ladies, though.

Intaglios--sort of like cameos, but engraved so that the face is indented instead of sticking out--were popular in men''s jewelry in the mid-20th century. They were usually images of men, not women--mostly Roman gods and heroes wearing helmets, that kind of thing. Is that what you''re thinking of?

say one with a design of a lady carved from shell?
