Hello,

I am most likely going to be purchasing this setting this weekend and just wanted to get some final thoughts. I saw this setting on whiteflash as well as unique designs of new york. I am going to have someone make me one similiar with a couple modifications.

The center stone is going to be between 1.05 and 1.15 cts, I just havent made up my mind on which stone I want yet.

I just have a few questions and would apperciate any suggestions

I noticed it only has 4 prongs, is that good or stable enough, because I know people that have six?

I am planning on taking away a few of the side stones so it doesnt go as far down. I was going to remove probally 4 of them. Would it make more sense if the sidestones when to the exact hafway point of the band or does it not matter?

My girlfriend has very tiny hands so do you think this setting will look like too much?

Lastly, does it look like the ring is going to sit too high off the finger?

Thanks for the input and I welcome any suggestions that would help me better customize this setting

Hi titan,

That''s a pretty setting!

To answer your questons,

1. In many cases prongs are a personal choice, for looks, and for safety. If a setting is well made, 4 can be as safe as six. On this particular setting, aesthetically, 4 would make sense.

2. It doesn''t really matter how many stones are removed, the only consequence of that is that if the ring spins on her finger at all, plain metal will show. Many don''t want them to go entirely around because it makes sizing difficult. Is there a specific reason you wanted to remove some? I really like where they go to/stop on this ring, as it can spin some and still have diamonds showing.

3. You will be hard pressed to find a gal say this would be too much. lol What size is her finger?

4. It''s hard to say how high it is, but I doubt it would be "too" high, and you can always ask them to make it as low as possible if you''d like.

HTH!

Thanks for the help Ellen,

The only reason I would be removing some sidestone is because I rememeber when we went and looked like 4 months ago she said she doesnt want them to go all the way around, and most of the settings she looked at had it at about halfway.

Also her finger size is 4.5

I was thinking of maybe asking them to add some of the smaller diamonds across the middle shaft that will be facing out, do you think that will be overkill and not neccessary.

Thanks again

Do you have your stone yet? Most custom jewelers will want the stone or stone info before they start work your project.

I think that''s a lovely setting and should look beautiful on a size 4.5 finger. You won''t need to go much above 1 ct, in my opinion.

I think I am going to go between 1.05cts and 1.15, i have two stones picked out with two different jewellers that can both make it. I am just going to check out one more place on saturday and am going to make my final pick then.

thanks

Then if she seemed to like that look, halfway would be fine!

The ring should just look lovely on her finger size. Very nice coverage without being too big. It will be perfect!

I am including your pic, with the area circled that I "think" you mean about adding stones. Am I right?

Hello titans,

I much prefer that type setting with the bezel instead of prongs unless your jeweller can do teeny prongs.

I feel like a broken record going on about a euro shank - I mention it all the time. So here we go again... did you consider a euro shank?

Apart from that - love the setting. Nice pick.

Yeah that exactly where I meant Ellen, do you think that would look nice? I was thinking about having them put maybe three stones on each side.

Thanks for the input steel, but I dont know what a euro shank is, I know what mean about the prongs, but the only problem I feel is when you use the bezel is it creates a little gap or line inbetween the halo and the setting.

I looked up euro shank, basically this is just the shape of the band of the ring? and what is the benifits, it prevents it from spinning? Because it looks kind of squarish, I am not that sure she will be into that style

I "personally" wouldn't do it. I think if you put them in just that area, they would look out of place, it wouldn't "flow" exactly. Just my personal opinion, but I'd leave it as is. (which is very pretty)

And yes, the Euro shank keeps it from spinning, which happens more with bigger stones/heavier pieces, especially as our fingers fluctuate and get "smaller" at times. If you do a search, you can get some opinions, but most find them helpful, and comfortable.

This is gorgeous and will look it on her 4.5 finger also.

Only change I would want is the bezel settting. I think it looks nicer on a halo AND it would help give you piece of mind for security.

IMO - bezeled halos look very nice set low - talk to the jeweler.

Good Luck. You have great taste and great ideas! :)

Thanks for the input
I am definetly going to look into getting a bezel setting, I am going look at a couple pictures now just to see what it would look like.

As for adding diamonds to the middle part, maybe it will be better as is, so thanks for your opinion

The only reason I though of possibly adding them was when I saw this setting and I liked the way the middle of it looked, but I like the overal style of the first setting better.

would a bezel really make the diamond more secure, is it just personal preference? I think I personally like the look of the 4 prongs better.

If the setting is well made, you will be safe with prongs. There are billions of 4 prong rings running around.

I like your original setting best, the other is a bit busy for me. But that''s just personal preference!

And you''re welcome!

thanks, i am probally going to just stick with the original design, maybe knock a couple of diamonds of the sides and thats it.

Please come back and post pics of the ring if you can, we love to see the finished product!

I will,
I was also thinking of maybe getting the sidestones and top stones channel set, instead of how they are. Any opinions on that, better or worse, or pros and cons.

titans: I have also been eyeing that WF halo setting. I have a few others that I also like so I am trying to decide the exact one that I want.
I also don''t want the stones to go so far down the shank. Here is one I found from Gottlieb and Sons'' that I am also contemplating:

Wow, that one is really nice. I went to the website but it doesnt give you that great of view of the ring from the front, but the way the diamonds are placed themselves looks almost exactly how I would want it. Do you have any idea how many total cts are on that setting? Also do you know if the diamond sits flush into the halo, or if there will be a gab between the halo and the stone.

Thanks for the help and idea

Sorry, I have no more additional info. However, I am going to try to get info from either the vendor (Gottlieb) or one of the jewelers in my area who carries this line. If you go to the Gottlieb & Sons website and punch in your zip code it will give you a list of jewelers. I know that Quest carries this line and a lot of people on ps recommend Quest. I do, however, like to see the settings in person so I get a true picture of what it would look like.

The style# for this setting is 27540

Thanks for the tip socool,

I am the same way, I would rather see it in person, just to make sure it is exactly what I want. I do tihnk I am going to have someone make it for me, so I am a little nervous because I might have to make a choice without actually seeing it.

titans, in case you''re still interested in the Gottlieb & Sons setting this is the info I received today:

27540ER is available in 14KT, 18KT, platinum and palladium. It has a total of 40 round diamonds with a total weight of .43 carats

Unfortunately, the jewelers who carry this line are not close to me, but when the weather is better I may venture out to get a closer look, but will first check to see if they have it or can get it.

thanks for the reply socool

Did you deciede what you are getting, I really like the setting you showed, but I might be going with the Whiteflash setting I was looking at
