Can I stick and oval in a 6 prong setting originally for a round stone?

I have my old setting that fit a 6mm stone - now I want to fill it, but i was thinking of going bigger or chagning shape. Any one know if I can do this?

What kind of "head" is on the setting?
Is it one that can be replaced?

It''s catherdal, so i don''t think it can be replced - i don''t want to replace anything, just stick something in it - if oval or cushion vcan''t fit I can totally deal with round. (REplacement wiill either be a fake diamond or a colored gem).

Funny you should say that - I am very seriously considering it! I just want to know if I can go a little larger, or change shape - my real ring is round, so i though it would be cool to change it up a bit - if I can''t, I''ll probablly order a yellow RB from www.freecz.com. Or maybe even an Old Mine cut - love that!

I don't think so. My jeweler told me once that every time a diamond is changed out of a ring, it should get a new head...that head can usually be placed on an existing ring though. My ering wnet from a 1.5 ct stone head to a 3 ct stone head--it just makes it.
