Ok, I'll confess. I have one item at the jeweler's right now being set, I'm waiting on another setting to arrive ( ), I got a stone in the mail last week and I just got another stone in the mail yesterday. I'll probably be done for a while after this though.

So my husband surprised me with this little guy for my birthday a couple weeks ago...


and I'm currently working on finding a setting for him, at the moment I'm leaning toward this style...


but I haven't committed to anything yet, so your suggestions and ideas are welcome!

Carmen, I admired that golden chryso since Peter first put it up. Please post some of your own pics in this thread or elsewhere! Yellow gold is definitely mandatory in this case.

Thank you Velouria & Corundum, I do love it and will post a thread with more photos when I make some progress on the setting. The setting in the photo is from Adzia (here: https://www.etsy.com/listing/153244...ut-lemon?ref=shop_home_active&show_panel=true). I've gotten an estimate from them, I'm just slow to pull the trigger.

A few weeks ago I sent two pieces of rough to a lapidary to be cut. I was on his waiting list for over a year. He says he is no longer accepting commission cuts. One piece is a 13 ct blue/green tourmaline that I bought from Jeff Graham many years ago. The other is an 8 carat red spinel. I have given him free reign to cut however he thinks makes the best use of the stone. Also I said that I am in no rush and to enjoy the holidays. If it takes one month or six months I don't care. Just thought I would share the suspense with you all!

VL: they look lovely, though I want the white paper shot of the red spinel as well - wanna see its reflection As to that faceter not taking further commissions, is it a temporary thing, or do you think that this time its permanent?

I do think it will be permanent for this lapidary, I will say who it is after the stones are cut. I don't want to put any pressure on him. Not that he is reading PS but it could get back to him.
Since I don't have the stone I cant take a white paper shot, but I did find these.

Does your tourmaline have a closed axis? I can't tell in your photos. If so, I would orient the table along the open axis. I don't know who the lapidary is, but I've seen some great lapidaries do some really weird things with gems to save weight, but in your case, I think he/she would use the open color axis for the table. You never know though.

If that is a white background, I can only imagine how bright they will look in hand, given that they look pretty darn good even though the background is darker than white.

A question for you: the recovery sounds like it was about 25% for the tourm - do you know why, or is this customary? It just seems kinda low...

Davi, I am guessing that the origin is Burmese because he is not listing it as such?

It is Burmese according to JD. PayPal will lock your account if the transaction says Burma or anything like that.

I got the jump on this spess from Gene. Drool..might finally be the pure bright spess I've been looking for! I've gotten and returned quite a few through the times, I'm hoping this one is a keeper. It's bigger in size than I usually go but I'm hoping the color will convince me to be a little showy. Hehe. I actually also have MariedTiger's spess ring on the way. So either way I'll finally own a spess!
