I just snapped up this bargain priced Mahenge spinel from Gene at Precision Gem. Link I never thought that I would see one for this price. It is about the color, of course!

Thank you, TL. I will take pictures. Yes, I didn''t hesitate on this one. I was at the Oshkosh air show the past few days Link, so I was talking to some aviation jewelry artists there about making a stunning pilot wings pin set with this stone. Other ideas are welcome, of course.

Fly Girl - I''m so glad you got that spinel! Hehe, I figured there were a bunch of PSers on his list! BTW, the last day of July is tomorrow - nothing new to show us??!!

I just got home from vacation and my DD handed me a phone message from Monday where they had a question about the color of the gold that I wanted. I guess she didn''t think it important to pass it on to me until now. Sigh.

I''ll call the jeweler in the morning for an update.

Oh I want to see pics of the spinel....the color is just beautiful

You have got to take pictures of it. It’s your PS DUTY!

I was checking Gene''s prices, and he priced this one at $200/ct, same as he does for other spinel with much less interesting colors (IMHO). I''m thinking that the Mahenge would normally go for at least twice that. He must have been really disappointed in the inclusions, because he rates the color a 10.

I can hardly wait.

Haha - I stink at this! Never would''ve guessed MN!!

Now I have a dilemma: do I hang out here for your pics, or lurk Barry''s site for his anniversary sale?

Is everyone already planning what to get when ACS gets updated?

1) When does it get updated?

2) Where do you look on his site to find the new stuff? Just browse through everything?

I''ve uploaded pictures from my Richard Homer amethyst project here. Link

LG, Barry sent out an email that ACS will be updated starting at 4pm EST, Aug 1st. He''s having an anniversary sale too, so stuff will get snapped up fast. He also said the site will be closed 2 hrs prior to prepare. There''s a tab for "newest inventory" in the menu on the left-hand side, but you have to go through another page to get to it, so I''ve just got it bookmarked. You can sign up for email newsletters for all his updates. Let us know if you get something!

I looked, nothing is speaking to me :-(. Last year at this time is when I bought the tsavorite, which I guess started my ACS obsession. Funny that this year I am not seeing anything. There is one tourmaline I like, but it is almost the same color and size as my tsav, so I don''t think it is worth getting a duplicate stone.

Speaking of Gene's Mahenge spinel, this beauty is just up. As I suspected, the price is higher, at $475/ct, but OMG, look at that COLOR!!!

So there were some talks about recutting of gems and who would recut. I was just browsing WildFishGems.com and ran across "the design your own jewelry" page and it list "re-cutting" prices, so anyone asked about recuts from WildFishGems before? just curious

This is my first purchase from Peter Torraca. It''s a sweet spessartite (that''s what I call a spessartite with sugar!) from his recent trip to Tanzania. It''s on its way now and I am quite excited as it is my first asscher coloured gemstone.

Hi D&T, I asked him to cut this for me. He showed me the rough but before I decided to ask him to go ahead to cut an asscher, he decided that he will cut an asscher from it, regardless of my decision. So when I told him my decision, he said he will give me first priority on this, to be fair.

I’ve signed up for the Newsletter ages ago so I get an automated email from ACS when he does his monthly sales. It’s usually on the first of every month sometime in the afternoon depending on where you are in the US.
