I know this is probably a silly question, but I am wondering how much prices of diamonds have changed over the years. I have some friends who have diamonds in the same range that I'm looking at that seem to have sold for much cheaper 2 years ago or so. I think this matches the market, but I am wondering what experts say.

Thanks!

at the pricescope.com homepage, on the bottom left side there is a whole graph and such on the price fluctuation over time that you may find helpful.

You also have to account for inflation, too. See this thread:

ACAs from WF have kept pace with inflation. It was like searching for a needle in the haystack to hit on $7.1k as his purchase price, but that's what the inflation calculator said (using the current price of an almost identical ACA diamond as the current benchmark). So it must be true!

Keep in mind that consumers are getting more educated about cut as well, so...maybe the perception is that diamonds are getting more "expensive" when you don't account for inflation and you don't account for improved cut. My $0.02.
