Check out this Pear… Bowtie or Contrast?

For my last upgrade, I had Whiteflash add a small donut at the base of the ering. I wanted that so that the wedding band didn’t slide so far up to the ering and to not have the diamond hang over the wedding band on the other side. Might not be a consideration for you, but thought I would mention it. My ering will spin, but the wedding band seems to ground it on my finger and it doesn’t spin.

This is really helpful, actually! Thank you for sharing... I am curious, how much of a gap does this create between your band and Diamond ring? Could you share a pic? Also, out of curiosity do you know your ring height? Thanks so much, MGR!

Yeah it looks Munich higher than 5.7 to me. This is a large diamond and the setting has it perched quite high. With just stems and no donut I’d be concerned it will tilt/wobble on the finger or even catch on things. Have you worn a ring with this construction before?

DD- All valid points, I am actually really glad that he created a brass version of it, so that I can look for these exact things when I receive it! I have had a 3 stone, but my center OMB was much smaller at 2.50 ct, 8.67 x 7.53.

@lulu_ma @lavenderdragonfly23 would love for you ladies to weigh in too? Thoughts?

Oh my word, how did I miss this update?!? A brass mold :lickout:

I am liking the angle the side stones are at… that was my only concern beforehand… I personally don’t like when the side stones aren’t angled and all three look like they are perched on a block of wood across your finger… if you’re following my logic here lol! Yekutiel has it angled nicely and will look very pretty straight on and side profile.

How wide is your shank again?
And how do you want to see your band? Snug up tight so there’s no gap or would you be ok with a gap?

I’m thinking spinning….
If you don’t want a gap, and your shank is 2mm or less I would have them size it a 1/4th of a size smaller. Flora is 7.49mm tall with a 1.7mm shank. I have a big donut and I had DK go down a 1/4th of a size - to decrease spinning and she moves, but barely. I have an aquamarine ring with sizing beads… I do not care for them. I have sensory issues and I hyperfocus on the sensation of the beads when I wear it. I will say though…. That ring never moves

If you don’t mind a bit of a gap and want to see all of your band, you could have him add a donut - even a small one would help prevent spinning. And with the donut they will be able to drop the setting a bit too- which will help from catching on things. Flora is tall, I wouldn’t want her taller though… I actually turned down a stone that was deeper than her and a 1/2ct bigger that was cheaper than Flora… because I didn’t want *that much* height ~ I’m klutzy lol

Shank width… I LOVE the 1.7mm on mine… it makes Flora look even bigger  … her shank is 2mm thick and was hand forged… so I’m not worried about it going out of round. If I hadn’t gone the hand forged route, I would have bumped it up to 2mm to prevent it from going out of round.

Thanks for chiming in! I knew you would want an update, lol!

So, Coco had a 2.5mm that increased to 2.8 on the bottom to prevent spinning, never had an issue. I decided after that experience I def wanted a heftier shank. Yekutial recommended 1.8mm, which was the size of my original engagement ring, and I understand is pretty standard, I felt that would be to thin... so we agreed on 2.3mm all the way around.

TOTALLY agree on the angeled pears! I actually do not like the look at all when they are straight across, I feel like it makes the pears look like wings... I was very specific that I wanted them really angled and tucked in, I didn't want any space really. I also wanted fatter and shorter pears on the sides for this reason, I do not like long pears for the sides, just my own aesthetic preference.

I am not sure how I feel about adding a donut yet, I specifically told him no donut because I was going for a flush look... I had a donut before on my last 3 rings, and while at first I didn't mind the gap, towards the end, I sort of wished I had planned a little better.

Size beads are a non issue for me, I am a 4.25 exactly, which is what I had this ring sized at, and what Coco was... I fluctuate between 4-4.25, with 4 getting too tight in the summer. My eternity is a 5 with beads, and I could have probably gone a 4.75, in the winter she spins!! But I was taking into account stacking and wearing with my engagement ring.

Tuesday can't get here fast enough, although I will miss all of this when it's on my finger. The anticipation is one of the best parts!

The donut is very small. I just wanted something to keep the wedding band from sliding up and almost under the ering. The wedding band is channel set so the rail on it went right up to the ering. I just didn't want it to get lost under the larger diamond in the ering. Unfortunately, I don't have a good picture of the gap although it is small. I just didn't want the center stone to completely block or go beyond the wedding band if that makes sense.

The second picture shows that the diamond doesn't hang over the wedding band.

Definitely let us know how you feel on Tuesday! Sooo excited for you! :appl: :clap:

So this a beautiful design- Gorgeous... but I do love the scale of the Pears on the sides. My original ring was a cushion with two bullets, and while beautiful, I want a completely different feel for this piece. My husband already reminded me this is my last stop, lol :lol-2:

Ha! Your husband says now this is your last stop but I tend to think this will change over the years! Congrats and can't wait to see your new ring!

Thank you... and I had to laugh, how many times have we said it was our "last stop?" I love reading old threads of other PS'ers saying that too, on iteration number 5, lol!

Yes, I say that about you knowing I am the same way, I don't think I am on my last ring ever either. I am very actively dreaming of a nice modern round in a few years!

My mold arrived today! I’ve been wearing it all day :lol-2: . First thing I thought was, “hmm, it’s smaller than I was hoping.” I’ve got problems. I know this, don’t judge me.

I also realize that this is literally a skeleton of my ring, and it’s what Yekutial had to remind me of- he also mentioned that truly, Diamonds are never really big enough. True statement.

The center is not tiny, I mean it’s 13.62 x 8.09. It fits perfectly with my band, and honestly after years of not having flush rings, I’m digging this look- so I decided to keep it as is! No changes. I also reminded myself this doesn’t have to be permanent, I can enjoy this setting for as long as I want! IMG_3297.jpegIMG_3295.jpeg

Very very nice. It looks right at home with your massive eternity. Maybe you can pick up some CZs about the right size and pop them in?

How long are you thinking until the ring arrives? Can't wait to see!

Here you're thinking...
“hmm, it’s smaller than I was hoping.”

I see the pic and I'm thinking, "Oh my gosh, it's huge!".

It looks perfect though! Looking forward to finished pics!

I know you have been traveling but we’ve missed you around these parts!!

Yekutial said next week! The ring is already cast and just needs to be polished, etc.

Here you're thinking...

Haha… our minds play tricks on us and PS doesn’t help the Diamond dysmorphia! I’m kind of glad that Y talked me off the ledge in making the sides bigger because I fear it would take away from the center- but I wonder if I were to change anything in the future it would be the side stones? I’m going to feel into it and see where I land when it arrives. The mold is a Skeleton so it’s hard to gauge!

I love how your ring looks with the eternity! They’re nestled together perfectly.

FWIW I always think that settings sans the diamonds always make you think that the diamond is going to look small, because your eyes focus on the bottom of the basket. Once the diamond is in there it will look bigger :D

Yeah plus the diamond extends beyond the cross bars on the basket too.
