Oh boy am I a loser!! Well as some of you ladies know, during a certain time of the month, many of us crave some chocolate. I am no exception to this and yesterday I bought myself a big bar of Nestle Crunch to tide me over

I had some pieces last night, then put the rest in the fridge. Well about an hour ago I decided to have some more. I took it out of the fridge, tried to break off a piece by having my two thumbs on the bottom of the bar, my fingers on the top. But because it was cold, it was hard to break. Suddenly, it gives and the pressure of the break sent my long (real, not acrylic) thumb nail FLYING OFF

I am left with only a little piece of nail and alot of icky, bloody and swollen skin where my nail used to be

I used our first aid kit to put some anti-bacterial and have a big bandage on it.

Beware, chocolate can be deadly!! Owwwww, this hurts! Typing is interesting too

i had this happen to me last month when one of our neighbor friends was babysitting a third dog and i was holding his retractable leash...huge big pit mix puppy dog who''s all muscle, and he took off and tore the leash out of my hand and tore my thumbnail right under the edge of the nail as well.

i had a bit of a bloody area until the nail grew out a bit...and YES IT HURTS!

tons of neosporin with pain relief worked for me..and i put bandaids on at night (with neosporin) and left it exposed during the day. within 2 days it hurt just a tiny bit.

good luck! damn that chocolate! bad for the thighs AND the thumbnails!

owwwwwwwww, Irish Eyes, gave up acrylics after I caught one in a stable door - blimey tears rolling down my face!!! I hope your thumb boo boo gets better soon - aaagh, what if you can't type much - what will I do without your posts

You know Mara and II I am sitting here with my toes curled into a tight little ball cringing

that really must be so painful. Haven't put me off choc though

That is terriable, the lesson here: you should have eaten the whole thing at once.

OUCH!!!!!! That makes me cringe, cause I hace acrylics and when they come off, I''m in pain big time. Yeah probaly should''ve eaten the whole thing at once!!!!

LOL, you guys crack me up!!

Yep, I should''ve just ate the whole darn thing instead of trying to be dainty about it and eating a ''square''

Kaleigh, I wish it was an acrylic that came off (although I know that''s painful too), unfortuanately it was my real nail

How long will it take to grow back?

Lorelei, I promise to still post, not even a missing thumb-nail can keep me off PS and stop me from my sarcastic comments!!

Maybe it was Mother Nature''s way of saying "LAY OFF THE SWEETS GIRL!!"

I can''t eat ONE SQUARE of those milky chocolates at all. It has to be one of the super dark 70-80% chocolate ones so that one square totally overloads my taste buds and MAYBE I can have 1/2 of another square but that''s it. It really cuts down on the cravings!! For milk chocolate, I would eat the WHOLE BAR. LOVE milk chocolate but it''s not as chocolately ''satisfying'' as the dark stuff!

How much of the nail came off? Last fall, I slammed my thumb in the patio door and ended up loosing the entire nail! Ouch! At first it just turned purple, but it hurt so much, my husband heated a needle and poked a hole in the nail to let the blood out. That took away the pressure so that it was only sore. About a week later, the entire nail started to come loose and finally came off. It took over three months for the stupid thing to grow back again! That nail bed was so tender, that I ended up wearing a bandaid on it until the nail grew back. If you only lost the tip of the nail, it will probably grow back and cover the exposed part of the nail bed in a couple of weeks. If you lost more, it will take longer. I feel for you...that had to be a painful injury. Chocolate is dangerous!
