*Christmas Carols (and Other Holiday Songs) 2010*

One of my favorite Christmas carols-if not my very favorite-is, "The Holly and The Ivy". A year or two ago I was introduced to a group called,The Mediaeval Baebes . I immediately bought their Christmas CD (among others). YouTube has some of their carols up on its website; here is a link to, "The Holly and The Ivy". I think it is a fabulous rendition of it!

dragonfly, I had never heard of, "The Snowman" and had never heard, "Walking in The Air". Thank you so much for posting the link to it. It is absolutely superb. I knew that the singer was someone special. Here is a link to what he (Peter Auty) has been doing since he recorded that song as a little boy!

Again: thank you ever so much for sharing that, dragonfly!!!

Deb - I'm really glad you enjoyed it! The Snowman used to come on when I was a little girl, and I Just remember being entranced as a child. For the longest time I could only remember little snippets in my mind, and never the name. Last year I re-discovered it and I just love it.

I agree! And since some of the people who have viewed it do not agree, or at least want to debate whether it should have taken place in a food court, the YouTube site has become a place of heated debate! It has kept me entertained all afternoon! They are debating the existence of God now. Thanks for the link, waterlilly. The music was uplifting and joyful; the website was addictive!

I am loving this one in particular at the moment.

Oh, Ellen, wow!!! Thank you so much for posting the link to that piece and its video. It's really a variation on, "Come, O Come,

Emmanuel", with, "Hatikvah" woven through it, but I have never heard anything like it...and with the video that the YouTube poster

put with it, it is amazing. I had chills watching it. It affected me the way Joy Williams', "Here With Us" and its attendant video on

YouTube did. I hope that diamondseeker sees this if she has not already done so. I know she will love it, too. I really love the story of

the nativity and all the variants on it, including the story of, "The Little Drummer Boy" and, "Amahl and The Night Visitors". The theme

of hope, peace, and love coming to the world is so inspiring.

Another of my favorite carols is, "The Coventry Carol". I copied the links to three beautiful, and very different, renditions of it on YouTube. I have placed them in order from the most intimate to the most formal. The first is a trio sung by The Rankin Sisters, who face each other as they sing and are accompanied by a harp. One can almost imagine that they are actually singing a lullaby to a child. The second is by a female group (AcaBella) singing a cappella, but in beautiful harmony. Their version is short. The third version is by the Mediaeval Baebes and is quite long and sounds as if it might have been sung in a cathedral, but is mesmerizingly lovely.
