Which color lights do you put on your tree?

My mom was never a fan of multicolored lights, so I always do white, too.

multicoloured!

And I drape them all over the apt - over doorways, under the trimmings on the tops of the walls, around the bar

DH doesn't particularly care for the "festivitie season" but he humours me.

I like both equally. I'm too indecisive. :rodent:

I do a really colorful tree with colored lights and these cute candy cane, lollipop and sugarplum ornaments--it's very festive and cheery.

I like the white.

Definitely white. Like you said, elegant and timeless (and chic).

We've only used white lights on our trees. I love the way the white lights look next to the colored ornaments. It's a good balance.

Multi coloured!!! I love them!! :appl:

Multicolored! Mine also have different settings of strobe, flash, or twinkle.....they are super festive!

Right now we have a squat little 4.5' tree with multi-coloured lights. It works because it just fits all the ornaments I currently own, which are a colourful collection of childhood momentos and the annual Campbell's Soup Company Campbell Kid ornaments. I think such a colourful and youthful tree would look...mis-matched...in white lights.

When I have an actual house to decorate instead of just our small apartment, I plan on having a "fun" tree like this, with coloured lights, all of my ornaments, and all of the ornaments for our (hopeful, future) children, and then having a sophisticated formal tree in the formal living room with white lights, and a winter colour palette of white lights, and icy blue, white, lilac, and silver ornaments.

Our tree is prelit with white lights. I like how the light bounces off the ornaments making those colors explode in a dark room.

I used to always do white, same with my family. Classic and elegant. But then the last few years I just got so tired of the white and started wanting to see color again so we've been doing both. The white on the inner part of the tree (for glow and illumination) and then colors all the around, and lots of them! I love it..it is so festive and sparkly! It helps that I have a 2 year old and she really likes the extra colors to point out. Another thing (for me at least) is that the white just reminds me too much of all the commercial/corporate trees--ie that's what I see in our lobby every day at work-kinda needed a switch up.

I LOVE a tree with all white lights. Something so beautiful about it..like stars twinkling inside your home. :D

White lights FTW! I grew up with white lights and tend towards them as a result. That said, I'm not opposed to the idea of some colorful lights in the future -especially if there are little people helping with the tree!

Both! The more the merrier.

I think doing one color is cool too. I've seen trees with all red lights, or all green lights. Gorgeous!

Multicolored!!!

I'm with Yssie...I put lights around the arches that go into my kitchen from the living room and family room, I string them in the kids playroom, around the mantel...we have so many that if they were white, I think you'd be able to see my house glowing from outer space.

I do both, Mulitcolored prelit Tree with a strand of blinking lights (also colored, but only the pink ones blink) to give it a little more dimension- my tree seems to twinkle and more interesting now. Our garlands are lit with white lights. We also have a few mini trees prelit in white lights as well.

We always do white lights and then also whitelights with the Christmas garlands around the house. But this year I think I want to do multicolored for the tree to be super festive!

I do white because thats what our tree is pre-lit with but...I really think the kids enjoy multi-colored. Usually the louder,
more colorful, dare I say more garish the tree is the more the kids enjoy it (which makes me happy)!!!

I love white lights on a tree. I think they are elegant and they are softer.

We've always done colored lights because the kids like those best, but I love the elegance of white lights. Some year I'd like to try it, especially the LEDs in a warmer white, but they're more expensive. A good friend of mine likes white while her hubs prefers colored lights, so they switch every year - I think that's the sweetest arrangement!

And vc10um - you already have your tree up?? Wow, that's impressive!

Haha...well, it's going up this weekend...and it's a fake, so we "have" it...it's just in the storage closet! We'll be traveling to KC to see A's family for Thanksgiving, so I allow myself to decorate for Christmas the weekend before...otherwise I feel like I get cheated out of time with my decorations! (Especially since we won't get back until the Tuesday after Turkey Day...)

I like the white one's, my son like's the multi-colored, so I got a prelit tree that has both on them, it has a remote where you can have just the white lights on or just the colored lights on or both, best of both worlds :wink2:

White lights - when they are not broke !!

My friend has a tree just like what you are describing, and its just gorgeous!!! really neat too!

White lights only. We actually use icicle lights on the tree. they lay nicely down the branches.

I've always done all white. My mom used multi-color, twinkling, singing lights. That combined with 10,000 homemade ornaments always made me feel like the Spirit of Christmas threw up on our tree. However, when I was very young, I remember thinking the lights were beautiful. SO this year, I have red and green lights to add to the white for the kids. I can't bring myself to do orange, purple, blue, etc. But, I think I can live with the bit of red and green lights.

I like white lights, but im thinking I might go buy some colored ones this year and do both!
