Chrysoberyl and amethyst purchases

I've been behind on posting pictures of purchases.

Here's a 1.5 ct precision cut chrysoberyl. It is neon yellow with a green secondary. It sparkles like mad even indoors. I'm not sure what to do with it, but I've been looking for this chrysoberyl color for a while and I had to buy it.

Here's my pic taken indoors, in bad fluorescent office light. Sorry for the bad pic.

Here's a cabochon amethyst I purchased from Dana cut from old Zambian rough. I have been looking for my holy grail purple, and this is it for me.

I have PS to thank for these purchases. Without you, I would never have learned what to look for in a chrysoberyl, or an amethyst.

Lovely stones, thanks for sharing!

Amethyst is my birthstone, and I would like to find my holy grail stone one day. I believe I have found it, however, it is beyond my reach at present.

Much as I love Chrysoberyls, yellow Sapphires and other yellow gemstones, I can't wear yellow or light green as they do not suit me.

DK :))

DK, by any chance is it a precision cut round, from old Zambian rough? If so, I bought that one also and returned it because it is not eye clean.

love, love the chryso - a nice one is on my wishlist and yours gives me something to aspire to :)

(dk168 - I would say yellow/light green aren't my colors either but a friend sent me a few learner stones IRL and was very surprised that I could wear the brighter ones).

I have a precision cut one just like that, and I put it in a yellow gold antique style setting. I know what you mean when you say it "sparkles like crazy."

Nice finds!!

Perhaps I can have them as accent stones.

No, I have not bought any yellow gemstones except for an inexpensive trillion Citrine from Jeff D for my multi-gem bracelet project.

DK :))

Love them both. You know how I feel about chrysoberyl and I adore a cab.

I bet the chryso sparkles like mad. I've never seen a round, so I bet it has even more sparkle, bit all the ones I've seen had a surprising amount of sparkle to them.

absolutely. loving. that. cab!

DK, I meant that I saw an amethyst cut from old Zambian rough, into a large round stone. Sorry for the confusion.

Both stones are gorgeous but I especially love the chryso! I wasnt a fan of yellow stones until I purchased a chyrso learner stone from a fellow PSer and now I am officially obsessed!

do you mind sharing where you purchased your chryso from?

Thanks, Limosun, moviezombie, and Niel. Niel, your old chryso ring is what made me fall in love with chrysoberyls. I've been wanting one for a while, but most of the ones I saw had brown in them. I was originally looking for a cushion like your stone, but I have to say this round is so sparkly that it convinced me to keep it. If I find a cushion with the same color at a similar price, I'll sell this. I'll going to Intergem in Feb, so we shall see.

Ricezo, I would rather not disclose the vendor as I found the transaction to be very involved, needing multiple emails. I don't want to put a complaint here on PS, and I also don't want to recommend without noting the issues. If I am able to buy a few more stones from the same vendor with more confidence, I will add the vendor at a later time to the Vendor List.

Thanks, TL. It sparkles more than my white diamonds indoors. I am starting to understand all the chrysoberyl love on PS.

Beautiful stones! I love the color in both, and I'm so happy you found your holy grail purple!

pregcurious,

I hope your next dealing with the vendor of the Chrysoberyl will be better than your first.

I have not bought any significant Amethyst except for inexpensive ones from Jeff D.

Oh no I'm sorry the process wasn't easy but I'm happy that you ended up with a beautiful stone! :))

I forgot about one more purchase. This is a moonstone (11.5 mm x 7 mm) , which I'm planning to set in a diamond halo.

Some of you know that I took a Lent-induced break from PS, and these have been my purchases (I think) since then. The only specific stone I have a hankering for now is emerald, but I have a green jadeite already, so I'm not sure if I'll ever buy an emerald. Otherwise, I would fancy stones with some kind of cool characteristic like cat's eye, asterism, odd inclusions, etc.

Being on PS the last 6 years has really taught me about my preferences for stones, and how to buy within my comfort range (price, size, and when to go for a gem brief.) I can't thank you all enough! I will hopefully now be able to focus on setting my stones that I've collected over this time, and I can't wait to share the end results with you all. I've realized though, I don't need all these stones to become rings, and I only ever wear rings because I like to see the stones. Do you all have like a dozen or more rings?

Both are lovely!

Hahaha. Thanks, TL.

That chryso makes my heart pitter-patter so fast. I can believe it's like looking into the sun! As for rings... too many right now, I need to make a visit to Loupetroop, after I decide which ones to redo and which ones to just sell. It bugs me when some of them sit in their jewelry box for weeks at a time, not getting any wear.

Give it to me and I will take good care of it. :Up_to_something:

Or orange stones. I think OTL did a similar type of ring (yellow and orange).

Thanks endlesssummer, and caf.

Mariedtiger, how many rings do you find that you wear?

Chrono, TL, and DK...thanks for making plans for the chryso :D I originally bought the chryso to set in my old ering setting (the YG WF Champagne setting), but I'm not sure. Do you ladies put your chrysos in YG?

I do not wear yellow or rose gold as it does not suit my skin tone, therefore, it has to be white metal for me.

DK :))

I did, I think yellow gold is fabulous for chrysoberyl.

Laughing...I just told the same thing to my mom who suggested i had enough rings and should switch to pendants.

And here's my confession :shhh: : I have a dozen new ring settings waiting for stones. (One of my jewelers was retiring and was selling 18kt gold stock settings cheap..figured worse case, I could sell them).

I don't have a chryso (yet) but I do have a couple of yellow garnets set in yellow gold.

I've seen chrysoberyls in white, yellow, green and rose gold. I selected 18K YG for mine.
