Hi Guys

I feel like a ninny asking this since I have one of my own but does anyone know who sells large, affordable, nice chrysoberyls these days?

Lil Sis wants a yellow stone for her collection next and we've been looking for Cchrysoberyls for a few months now with no luck. No sapphires as they are pricey and she loves the sparkle of my chryso.

I've looked at Seda Gems, Mastercut, Jeff Davies but no luck so far.

I do see a few on Caratzone but I had quite an adventure with him last time so I am not keen to try again.

No rush but if you see a nice one could you pretty please post in this thread for me to show her!

Thanks in advance!

Cripes! Wow! I'll send her that link!

For some reason I never equate Gary with chrysos! More spinels and sapphires! I need to pay more attention!

I kind of found it by accident too, it’s pretty well hidden under “other.” Not sure if that or the final sale is the reason it’s still there.

Yellow tourmaline?

I was going to say that Cecile Raley Designs on Etsy also has chrysoberyls, depending on what you mean by large, but OMG I would personally go for the Finewater Gems chrysoberyl in a heartbeat if I didn't need my funds for other projects.

Likewise. If that image if accurate, that price for an almost 6 ct chryso of that quality is hard to beat.

Thanks gang! She's going to investigate the Finewater one to see if it leans Olive (Dont want Olive).

Anyone have a yellow zircon? We'd love to see pics and get the goss on them if you do!

@Burmesedaze I personally find tourmalines a bit meh unless they have a super cool cut (or are the cuprian ones). Also lacks sparkle imo.

I think she's better off buying a nice big chryso.

This is a 9x7 3.48 ct honey zircon I bought from Yvonne recently.

Oh that's so pretty!!! Does it ever go brown?

I ask because my pink zircon browns out in sunlight (not an issue with me but nice to warn Lil Sis).

I haven't gotten it in hand, so I don't know yet. Why, is Lil Sis interested in a zircon instead of (or in addition to) chrysoberyl?

She's interested in affordable yellows which to me are chrysos and zircons.

I've got a great impression of zircons in general from my 2 (so sparkly) but the chryso is tougher and also sparkly. The only thing she doesn't care for is any brown or olive tendencies so I'm looking out for that.

Plus she takes aaaaages to make a move (this is why I buy her stuff, she's like a snail at her pace).

I think I got the honey zircon at a great price. It's not a priority for me to set, so if you'd like to have it to give to Lil Sis, I could pass it along to you at cost, around $150. I still think the Finewater chrysoberyl is an even better deal, if she likes cushion shapes. Zircon is not as hard as chrysoberyl, and a bigger stone is a bigger stone. If you're interested in the honey zircon, here are the stats:

Shape: Oval Portuguese Cut
Dimensions: 9.18 x 7.06 x 5.62 mm
Weight: 3.48 carats
Color: Yellow
Clarity: VVS
Origin: Tanzania
Treatment: Mild Heat

I still strongly encourage you to get the huge Finewater chrysoberyl, unless Lil Sis hates the shape, or if it has more brown/olive than she would tolerate. I think it'll probably be sparklier.

Sri Lankan yellow zircon is very affordable.

I'd prefer a chryso over a toum too though the latter is more economical at current prices :)

Where do you look at yellow tourmalines? I've only seen them in Yvonne's Etsy shop, and her canary yellow tourmalines are priced for many times what her chrysoberyls are at.

I got 1 from Mastercut last year. $80, well over 2ct.

I have purchased two from Barry at acstones.com. Here are his pictures and two of mine. The gems are both very, very bright and sparkly. He doesn’t have any listed on his website right now but you could ask him if he has any rough.

Thanks ladies! Have passed on all your suggestions!

@voce that is a great price for the zircon! I hope you post pics when you receive it!

@Hivona your emerald cut heliodore is divine!

Haha I have discovered she is a slooooooow mover when it comes to looking at stones so this can take a while! Unlike me who can get super trigger happy over "the one."

You guys want to hear a travesty of a gem story?

Many years ago, way back when, before I shelled out for my yellow diamond ring from DBL, I stalked PS and discovered Tan who sold CS. I bought a pretty nice coloured yellow sapphire for around $100. When I received it, it looked MUCH smaller than what I thought 1ct should be. I was basing this on carat weight of diamond and assumed the sapphire was shady so I left it around somewhere. This was long before my 6yo was born so I didn't even have him to give it to (I give any gems that I decide not set to him and he dives for them in the bath). It probably got tossed in a clean up.

I PINE after that little small sapphire now that I realise it most likely was legit. I remember it was a lovely colour!

I find the price of bigger chrysos a lot higher than I think they should be. I keep reading that it's an economical, hardy stone and well....the price ain't that economical!

And most of them verge on having this olive tone which I don't like.

Yes they've gone up by too much. My 1ct ones are pure yellow though light. Bigger ones I have lean a tad olive.

@mellowyellowgirl I'm not going to get it sent to me until it's set, and that's going to be after my second paraiba gets set, is what I've decided at this point. You'll eventually see it, but it'll be 3 or 4 months at least.

Anyone still remember the price on 5.76ct Finewater chrysoberyl mentioned in previous post? A screenshot is even better!
I saw he had one earlier this week around 2ct posted under New gems and wonder how it compares with the previous one price-wise and color-wise.

With golden yellow chrysoberyl, you want to be careful they’re not too brownish yellow or urine colored. I prefer the neon greenish yellow highlighter colors, but with golden chrysoberyl, you have to worry it’s not too brown.

Thanks. Will you consider these as ideal neon greenish yellow?

and this to be too brown https://www.pearlmansjewelers.com/gemstones/?sku=G82020?

Yes, yes and yes.

Glad to find I'm getting a little better to detect brown. Strange the brown one is pricey per ct, maybe because it is bigger.
