This may be a silly question...but even though I''m having a DW I thought it might be benefitial to do a hair trial somewhere locally, in order to be sure the style I have in mind is what I really want.

I found the hairstyle from a girl on this site, and I remember her telling me that she had to use a hair piece to make her hair look thicker, and that her hairstylist (who I think was a friend of hers) just clipped it in.

So I guess my question is, do most stylists have clip on hair extensions on hand? Or do I need to buy one somewhere. And if so, where....and how on earth do I know which one to get?!

I looked on ebay just to get a ballpark idea of how much they cost, and um....whoa. lol.
But there are all different kinds. I''m not sure what to do.

I''m fairly certain I''m goint to need some length and body though. If anyone knows anything about this, I can post a pic of the poster (who may or may not be an active poster...i forgot what her s/n is so I''m not sure if she posts here anymore!).

Thanks in advance.

It would help if you post a picture of what you plan to do with your hair and a picture of your hair now so we can help you evaluate it. I have helped my friend put in extensions, but I had to twist them in at the root, I know very little about where to purchase them and even less about the clip-on variety.

There are clip in hair extensions / hair filler and hair role fillers that can be used to get the effect of longer/thicker hair. If you look towards the botton of this site you can see what i mean.

I have seen many professionals who carry it and many that dont. I would say more dont. Alot of them say they can work with them but that you must supply them. I would just ask whomever you get to do your hair at the destination ahead of time.

If it is an updo, many people use the hair rolls and wrap their hair around it so you can get that thick bun look without having a ton of hair

Doesn''t Jessica Simpson''s stylist make clip on extensions?? From what I understand, these are surprisingly easy to use - according to my hairdresser friend. And while they are amazing for long term wear, for one or two days they work great.

I actually talked to my hair stylist about this on saturday. She said that it depends on the salon. Where she works, the have most of the hair colors available, but a really unusual color might need to be ordered.

I was all intrested because I wasn''t aware that a lot of people get extensions for the wedding. She did warn me that it would probably be better to take them off for the wedding night though.

The best thing I think is to talk to your regular stylist to see if she can recommend where you can get extensions locally, or she might be able to get them for you.
You can order online too, but getting a good color match could be more difficult. I haven''t worked with the JS ones, but I have heard that they are really simple. I think the human hair ones are a bit pricey though, but I haven''t checked since they first came out. (and if you plan on using a curling iron/rollers, any heat on the extensions you will need human hair not synthetic) I know for me, I don''t keep them on hand because there are just too many different choices, and you can''t know what you will need until your client is in your chair!
That said, I know some salons will carry a whole line of this brand or that brand extensions, so they are always available. Like everyone else said, just check with your stylist!
Also, I think it is a great idea to do a trial run to see if you will even like the style you picked out. Then, if you do, take lots of pics so you can show them to the stylist on your wedding day!
Good luck

Here is some good hair extension advice...

First of all, if you want to wear your hair up, clip in extensions wouldn''t be the way to go. The need to be clipped at the root, and pulling the hair into a sleek, finished updo is difficult. You''d be better using track extensions that are bobbypinned in place where you''ll need the extra length or volume. Also, having strand-by-strand extensions will not work for an updo either since you can see the bond clearly when the hair is pulled up/back.

Secondly, it''s very very very important that you purchase human hair...synthetic hair will burn/singe if it is touched with heat since it is nothing more than a fine plastic fiber...it does melt!

Third, even if you plan on wearing your hair curly, it is best to purchase straight (human hair) extensions. Often times the curls put into the hair are done by a machine, and your stylist may have a hard time blending or duplicating the curl pattern. You want the addition to look as natural as possible, and your stylist can achieve a blended look by curling the hair herself/himself.

Fourth, most stylists do not stock hair pieces. They can become very expensive, esspecially for higher end hair, and in addition to the price, most stylists do not want to stock hair for the sheer fact that they take up space and often times will sit unused for great periods of time. If you want extensions, you should make an appointment for a consultation prior to your trial appointment. This will give you the opportunity to discuss your wants, and your stylist the chance to look at your color. Most stylists will insist upon picking the hair they plan to you...however, some will have you get the hair yourself with instructions on selecting the right color tone. It''s important to remember that you cannot change your hair color once you have the extensions, so if you''re planning on going from blonde to brown, wait until you''ve reached your ideal shade before scheduling a consult! Attempt to meet with you stylist as close to the time you''ve colored your hair as possible. Hair color fades, and while you might be "brown" all the time--3 weeks out from your color, you''ve begun to dull and are not true to what you''ll be on your wedding day! P.S: Consults are more often than not free.

Fifth, DO NOT buy hair online, whatever you do!! Just like with any color--dresses, shoes, whatever--dye lots can vary from cut to cut, and it''s important you actually see the hair next to yours to insure perfect blending!

That''s all I can think of right now, but if something else comes to mind I''ll pop back in!

Thanks everyone!
I was trying to find a picture of me with my hair down, but since I almost always wear my hair up, I don''t have any!! And my camera''s battery charger still needs to be replaced, so I''m stuck.

My hair goes down to about the middle of my shoulder blades, and I wouldn''t say it is thin, but it''s surely not thick either.
I''ve included some pictures of the hairstyle I love....hopefully this poster doesn''t get mad!!!
I don''t know if her extension was used in the "ponytail" part, or if it was added to give length to the rest of her hair.
My hair is about 3 inches shorter than hers, but I''m okay with that.

Hopefully you can see these....

Edit: Yeah, they came out kind of small. Grrrr. The original picture was too big. I hope you can see them clearly enough!
Edit again: I just realized I spelled "beneficial" wrong in my OP. Hahaha...oops.
