We are marrying at noon on a Sunday, with just 60 family members and very close friends. We don''t have attendants, there will be no bouquets. A friend is officiating. We''re not following many of the standard wedding formats - just want to have our loved ones present.

I want a calf length dress in a bright color, say emerald green or a strong blue. It has to have some movement as we''ll dance tango at the brunch reception.

Has anyone gone this route? Pictures to share please?

I know that brazen_irish_hussy had a green dress, but I think hers was a bit more in the pastel range. I think I remember seeing a red gown, too, but can''t remember whose... and a purple one... yellow too maybe? I thought about burnt orange but knew I wouldn''t have another opportunity to wear the beautiful "bride-y" dress that I''d fallen in love with, so I ended up with ivory.

Lots of people do this! You don''t need to see other peoples'' choices to know whether you want to do it yourself. If you love the idea, go for it!

Here are some green ones I found on google image search

i would look at j.crew...they have beautiful dresses.

Hmmm... with summer quickly approaching, I think there are tons of bright-hued dresses available- and if you really want one, don''t hesitate for one second!!

How important is it to you that you try the dress on before purchasing?? If that''s not high on your list (as you can always send it back)- I second the JCrew recommendation, and also suggest BlueFly.com

I think I went to HS with the girl in the green dress on the beach.

Thanks to everyone for your suggestions, I appreciate it. There are some shapes I hadn''t considered.

We''re tying it up in October. Maybe I''ll just wait for the giant issue of Vogue in September for the Fall lines. I want to avoid the princess look as much as possible. A dress that is just as long as half my calves, with a slim waist and open at the collar bone, though not strapless. He will probably wear a charchoal grey suit with a bright tie.

Hi!

Thought you might like this poem that I found about colors of wedding dresses. I''m not superstitious but it''s fun reading anyway

“Married in white, you will have chosen all right. Married in grey , you will go far away. Married in black, you will wish yourself back. Married in red, you’ll wish yourself dead. Married in blue, you will always be true. Married in pearl, you’ll live in a whirl. Married in green, ashamed to be seen, Married in yellow, ashamed of the fellow. Married in brown, you’ll live out of town. Married in pink, your spirits will sink.”
