So, I''ve become more involved than I originally planned on the e-ring selection, but I enjoy it...so it''s ok. The proposal will be surprise part. We are going the B&M route...my bf is more comfortable with that and the jewelery has very reasonable prices.
I''ve decided on a cushion....loved a setting that''s meant for a princess...about 4 or 5 channel set princess stones on each side and a larger princess on each side as side stones. I wanted to switch the 2 princess sides out for cushions. My bf told me today he was quoted $17K, which I thought was about $1K too high. Please read my breakout below and comment...

cushion sides...about 0.72 total weight...G VS2 (I think) for $1600 together
the setting in white gold (and I apologize b/c I don''t know the exact diamond weights, but it''s about 0.76 total and I''m guessing the 2 larger are about 0.2-0.25 each) is $1900
Platinum is approx $1000 extra
well....12700+1600+1900+1000 = approx 17000
however, I''m not using the 2 large princess sides, which are including in the cost of the setting....so I figure $600-1000 should be subtracted for that reason
My boyfriend was hoping to spend closer to $15K....and at the current price with tax it''s almost $18K. I told him he could go with white gold to save about $1K, but he seemed to feel it was worth the extra. I emailed the jeweler to see if we could look at some less expensive side stones this weekend. Plus I remember the sides being more square than the center, so I figure it can''t hurt.
One more question.....do you think $1600 for a matching pair G VS2 0.71 tcw is reasonable? I''ve seen about $400 for a 0.36 carat cushion on the price search.
