I purchased this citrine from Rick at Art Cut Gems, I just love it.

His picture shows a brownish tinge which I don''t see at all in RL. It''s really a bright, clear medium orange which is really pretty. It''s a big one too, 9 x 11, I forget the carat weight.

It''s nice to get a stone that''s better than the pictures! He said it''s hard to capture citrine with a camera, and he''s right, as my pictures don''t really convey it either.

I don''t like yellow citrine very much, it''s too washed out for me, but this looks more like a fanta orange garnet.

See how pitiful my picture is? Seriously, you can''t tell a thing!

I was going to make a ring out of it, but I think I would prefer a round for a ring. I''m thinking pendant, any ideas?

This is pic is closer to the real thing. You can''t actually see through the stone at all, so don''t know how I achieved that with this pic. . .

It''s so sparkly

Love the concave cuts.

I am looking for pendant ideas, I prefer something very minimal, a design that lets the stone dominate, rather than the setting.

I thought this would work for my bubblegum ring project (thread: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/which-stone-do-i-need.143386/) but I''m liking the oval for a pendant, seem more graceful.

It''s a good thing you have Rick''s picture to show us.

First off, are you thinking of setting it East/West or North/South?

I know, right? LOL! I have total sympathy for all the jewelers and cutters who have to take pictures of their work! Gemstones are hard!

I think North/South on the pendant, but I''m open to East/West, too.

That''s a neat citrine that I''ve been admiring on Rick''s site for a while. Glad you are liking it. Concave faceting just doesn''t seem to photograph well, but it is cool in person.

As for your quest, I''m thinking a hot pink tourmaline might fit the bill. This one is a 9 mm squarish gem from Dana at Mastercutgems. Link I''m thinking it will have that ''hey, look at me'' pop that you are seeking. At least, that is how Dana describes it.

Very pretty!

Congratulations! As a proud owner of a concave cut spessartine, I know the feeling! Enjoy the orange!

I saw that one, Crasru! It's AMAZING! I really like the white diamonds around it, which make it a real popper! I like to see jewelry where the colors of the stones really work together. Do you have a thread for it?

Maybe I should set this citrine in a halo ring, since your orange looks so nice . . .

The sad part of my gem quest so far, is I started by just wanting 1 dinky little casual bubblegum ring, then it all grew. I have 2 other stones coming, and 1 that I get a "first look" at when it's done, plus 2 that I'm deep in negotiation on . Like going to the store for milk . . .

@ FLYGIRL: You're exactly right on the pop factor for that stone, good pick! I am just not crazy about the shape of the cut . . . I've really got to stick to round if this thing is EVER going to happen. . .

some years ago i saw a citrine that i thought had to be a spessartite.....and i made the owner take it out of the case so i could see the tag myself. nothing like a ''bit o-the orange'', eh?!
