The diamond is in the building ladies and gents! (mostly ladies...)

This may be the last pics I get before it disappears into BFs hands til THE DAY.

I added this below, but I'll put it here so its easy to see

2.5 CT J VS1, heirloom from my great grandma.

Absolutely Gorgeous!!!

I am sure there are on here somewhere, but what are the specs if you don't mind? - Edited to say: how did I not see the specs, read dreaming, read. I think I just saw the ring and lost focus, so pretty!!!!

I.AM.IN.LOVE. Truly...

Love.

It''s so bootiful! What setting do have in mind for it?

oh its soo pretty!!! are you going to have it reset into another setting or stay with the solitaire? :-)

Honestly ladies, I am at a loss for the setting. LOL

I will probably get a palladium or platinum setting. I think Im a solitaire girl at heart, but there are so many beautiful options... sigh.... whats a girl to do?

I like the legato sleek line setting that ive seen on here before, and of course, Tiffany style 4 prong setting.

What do you ladies think?

Also, thanks so much for all the cheerleading! I have loved this diamond since I could barely walk, and it''s so exciting to finally have it in my, er--- our, er--- his possession!

Thanks for the support and ogling!

It''s very pretty! What ring size do you wear? You''re so lucky you already have your diamond!

EEEEEEK!!! Beautiful!!! Hopefully it''s won''t be much longer... ::smiley with fingers crossed::

I feel your pain in terms of being indecisive about setting choices...>

I too feel like a solitaire girl at heart but when I look at some of the gorgeous rings our fellow PSers have, I want to change my mind! I never thought I was into halos, and now, I kind of love them. Your stone is wonderful, and fairly large, so anything you choose will look beautiful. If BF gives me something in the 1.5-2 ct range, I will probably want a solitaire setting, but if its smaller, I honestly don''t know what I''ll do.

Your stone would look beautiful all by itself, IMO. What styles are you loving right now?

Ring size is a 6.5ish.. depending on the humidity...hehe

Loving this one:

And of course a tiffany style 4-prong in platinum.

I think I may have to follow my solitaire intuition. I like that the diamond speaks for itself, and I''m a simple t-shirt and jeans girl who wear no other jewelry, so I may as well keep it simple, right?

ya i was gonna say I wouldnt do too much u dont want to distract from gorgeous rock :-) Id keep it pretty simple :-)

I think you need to go out to many different places and try on as many rings as it takes for you to find one that makes your

sing!

I went on a shopping spree trying on rings this past weekend and honestly the setting I''ve always thought I wanted was not the one for me. It looked great on, but it just wasn''t the perfect setting. I tried on something a bit randomly and fell in total love with it. Not at all a style I ever would have envisioned loving but it looked simply divine!

a big (BIG) J diamond! so pretty!

Its very pretty. What a lovely heirloom to have in the future!!

That stone is beautiful! And I love that it is sentimental. No one in my family has a diamond that I can think of, so you''re definitely lucky to get such a gorgeous piece of family history!

It''s breathtaking, Elle! Tell him w are craving proper handshots. A stone like that does not belong on a boy''s pinky--it belongs on your ring finger. Hehe.

Gorgeous ring - huge diamond!

Beautiful ring! splendid stone! Love it!

Ditto this. The type of setting, and even stone shape, that I was 100% sure that I wanted before I actually went out and tried things on looked blah on me and I ended up with something that I wouldn't have even considered before trying different styles on.

So definitely get out there and have some fun! FI even had a blast on our hunt for the perfect setting!

Your stone is gorgeous!

elle, do you know if this stone is an OEC or a transitional or is it a modern RB? If it's a gorgeous stone in person, I'd leave it in a solitaire setting as it allows the stone to do it's thing. I think haloing or putting a lot of schmatta around a stone of that size takes away from it, really. It looks amazing as is. You could always do a custom simple Leon Mege setting like Harriet has. Have you looked at her SMTR thread? I think that would be divine for your stone. Those single claw prongs and a simple, classic platinum setting, and a family stone to boot? How can you go wrong with that?

ETA: Keep the solitaire simple, and bling it up, if you feel the need, with an eternity wband...

What a honker! It''s gorgeous! I have to ditto surfgirl-I would put that baby in a Leon solitaire and then bling it up with a diamond eternity band, just like Harriet''s set.

I don''t know nearly enough about diamonds to be able to answer your questions if it''s OEC, etc.. The family friend who looked at it said that it looked like an older cut, i believe he said the table percentage was higher? -- but again, other than the 4 C''s, I''m not that good with analyzing diamonds.

I think I am going to stick with something very simple and palladium, and I was already kind of leaning towards an eternity band for my w ring.

FF and I will be looking at settings in the next couple of weeks, and Ill hopefully be able to post some pics and let you guys know what I''m thinking.

The ring went into a safe deposit box today so FF can take it out whenever he wants without my knowing. It was SO hard to put it away, but he let me wear it on the way to the bank. I almost drove off the road because it was so distracting having that thing on my finger.

I have an old family stone and had it looked at, and it was an old european cut (they dont do those anymore..) maybe that could possibly be what it is...Ill try to take some pics for comparison if ya want?

I cant wait to see what you pick out..

I think that''s lovely.. how proud you will be to wear your great granmother''s ring :)

I will be, especially since I never met my grandma, or my great grandma. My grandma died while my mom was pregnant with me. One of the last things she did was pat my mom on the belly and tell her that if I''m a girl, she wants my mom to pass the ring onto me. So it''s really, really an emotional thing. My mom cried when she gave it to me.
