Also I am considering mokume gane for the shank if i can get a yellow and green gold mix...
Wonderful!
5.gif

... it could be pink gold (contrast), unless you find some green type that is green enough.

Rose/Pink would also be great... as you might recall, my Ti tension ring has a rose gold inlay. I am thinking that perhaps a ring design that is modeled after Stephan''s previous rosegold/asscher ring would make for a winning design?

Like this?

If it is not a rhetorical question... I''d try something with less rigurous lines, because the stone looks like that too.

And for color...

I am pretty obsessed with this one (iron and gold), but that''s just me, of course:

Whoa,

You sure have an amazing treasure chest of inspiration pictures!

I agree with you about the superstraight lines not being the most flattering for the cushion. I like the semibezel... what do you think if the stone were in a basket of sorts with a thin yellow gold halo (pseudo bezel) with yellow gold prongs on the corners. This way the whole stone can be seen if the girdle is above the surrounding yellow bezel, while still providing the color enhancement and following the outline of the stone. All with ... I am also partial to the tri-gold MG that you posted, for the shank...

Thanks so much and as always if any other ideas come to you, they are always welcome!

Not sure I understand the description right...
Just for the suspended bezel leaving the pavilion open, this could be a recipe. Just imagining a thicker, non-tapered mokume gane shank instead of the girlie pave here, and different proportions to fit the size of the ring.

r323-10W.jpg

However, this implies the ring can''t be allot wider than the stone (i.e. adding the width of the bezel).

Thanks so much and as always if any other ideas come to you, they are always welcome!

My pleasure!

This is something else... link

Assuming the yellow diamond in the place of the sapphire, and leaving the other two to the imagination. I liked the engraved bezels used here. The base could be wood-grain metal, I suppose.

Okay scott I wasn''t gonna drag up your older thread but I''m cracking up here - I finally got around to reading your thread and lo and behold I''m reading something very similar to what I want for my ring! lol ie the "pseudo bezel" which I''ve also seen called a "girdle bezel" and I''ve attached a pic that I like :) Anyway, in addition to that I want prongs hehehe... though now I''m wondering if I get it the same size but instead of covering the top of the stone, have it just be like 3/4 round and many prongs connecting it over the top... see now I understood what YOU were saying, but I challenge you to understand what I am saying ROFL!! I am so loving this... I''m getting a stone on wed, can''t wait to share pics with you! I''m still debating what "toys" I should buy but I''ve decided it''s good I have none for now and can just play with my eye-tools for a few days :)

whups, forgot the picture! lol

Hey Cerha!

Isnt''t it amazing how we was such similar things for our respective rings. So while you will be getting to see your cushion on Weds (and I sure hope you find something fitting and sparkley!), I very well might be lucky enough to be seeing a wax of my ring today
emteeth.gif

Before I get into the nitty gritty of the design, let us just say that the jeweler and I have managed at least on paper and CAD/CAM to come up with a design that likely satisfies my desire for an all metal halo/bezel WITH a form of prongs, in order to protect the stone, visually enforce a more geometric outline and to give it a perceived size bump
12.gif

And while I lucked out with my eyes, I think that having an idealscope would be a faster way to screen through the stones, after which letting your eyes doing the deciding might be best.

GOOD LUCK and I can''t wait to see pics of any of the contenders. BTW what exact specs are you going for your OMC?

Congratulations. Those are both very nice stones. Of course it would be great if you''d go out and buy a UV light and post more photos.

Your descriptions of the stones under UV sounds GREAT.

Ooooooh wax pictures! You gonna share???

My desire for a halo is to protect the girdle, but if this is the *it* stone, it has a med/sl thick girdle so I don''t know why I''m fussing! Part of me wants a truly naked stone, I love the look but I''m so paranoid because I''m clumsy and rough on things...

Oh I dunno how many stones I''ll actually get to see... I just hope I love this one and of course as is usual oregon fashion, it went from 90''s and sunny to drab and overcast today with no sign of sun ::sob:: how am I going to check the sun factor!!??

What toys do you have? you have an idealscope and an ASET - do you have tweezers or those ring thingies? I''m ordering stuff today but I''m not sure what I should get!

What specs am I looking for? Well... the stone I''ve bought for inspection is a 2.71 J VS2 with faint flour... I''d much prefer strong flour but the rest of the stone called to me on paper... I feel so strongly for this stone in some weird instinctual way and I hope I''m not psyching myself up for a huge disappointment... it''s a 1.26:1 ratio... so other than the strong flour this stone is pretty much what I''m looking for... exactly! I wanted VS2, I wanted J/K, I wanted it as big as possible - the bigger the stone the bigger the facets... the bigger the facets the bigger the rainbows! LOL

How well do your stones do in the fire department? And how high are the crowns again? Oh and which stone is yours - mt dew or iceburg? is your mom''s stone being set also?

I don''t know if I can stand the wait until tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, more flour photos please! LOL Actually... I would love to see the stone from different angles... all sorts of them in all sorts of light... oh and yeah I''d love to see outdoor shots too... omg whomever referred to this stuff as gem **** sure nailed it! lol (no pun intended ;)

WOW its so flattering that you are even using the names of the stones
41.gif
How *ever* could I refuse to post the fluor pics you desire
10.gif
So here we start with Mt Dew... unfortunately the CCD on my digital cam is unable to faithfully reproduce the color of the fluor, however it does capture the intensity/level of fluorescence! Imagine this picture but with a Green-Yellow GLOW. This particular stone glows brightly even in dim blacklight exposure and I am not sure if I had already mentioned it, but my diamonds actually phospheresce in complete darkness, though I have had a devil of a time documenting that, its still uber cool to witness (yellow-orange glow that lasts for 30sec-1min). Hope you enjoy...

I''ll try to work on the iceberg one soon, I promise!

That is so cool... so freaking cool... I''ll have to go out and get a blacklight tomorrow to see what GIA considers "faint" on the stone... and if its a keeper I''ll have to come up with a cool name LOL (I was already planning on naming it, I just don''t know what my dreamstone''s name is yet - she, or he, might be funky, might be elegant, might be quirky, might be delicate, might be handsome... who knows! LOL I feel like it''s christmas eve!

WOW Scott that last photo showing the flour is GREAT. Can''t wait to see more of those. I think it''s great that you can see the flour in total darkness. It really must be strong!

Where oh where did you/can I buy a black light?

Cehra -- I can''t believe we have to wait another day before your cushion arrives.
38.gif
I so understand that you are attached to it already and you haven''t even seen it. I hope it really is everything you want in person, since it is on paper. Did the vendor give you some idea of the personality of the stone?

you can buy blacklight bulbs at target and other places usually but with halloween around the corner your options are going to increase a lot! And no... no idea about the stone, i feel like it''s an arranged marriage and I just have to wait to see if I got a prince or one of those fat greasey merchants from overseas (we just saw cassanova lol)

Hi Stone Hunter,

I use an UV-LED as my blacklight source. Got mine off of ebay here is a LINK from where I got mine. Have fun!

Wow. Just popping in to commend you on those gorgeous, gorgeous stones!

Thanks so much for your kind words Hest, it is appreciated.

And for all those who are still hanging in there with me on this thread... I shall unveil Mt Dew in its new thrown
12.gif

This ring was constructed for my mom who never really was much of a jewelery person until it became my hobby! After talking with her about her wearing habits and what type of looks she enjoys wearing, we finalized upon a nice cathedral setting with bead-set white round side stones, and of course because Mt Dew is yellowish, 18Kt yellow gold for the prongs, to add to the deepness of the color and enhance the contrast with the sparkly white shank.

Without further fanfare, here are the picture collages I took... enjoy
10.gif

This first picture shows the many faces that the stone can exhibit, from a light lemony yellow to an electric green and a glow-in-the-dark wonder...

MtDew-Closeups.jpg

Next set is a series of photographs that shows just how eletric-green the stone can get with high UV-content lighting, kind of like a color change diamond

Hand shots are pending but stay tuned...

SOOOOO COOOL!!!!

I love that stone, it''s so funkay cool! I want to see some outdoor in the sun shots when you can... way cool!!! I love it!! Every time I look at your stones I love the NON symmetry... they''re so unique and they''re like eye food - they never get boring! there''s nothing expected!

THANKS for the new photos. You really got some of the color change in them.

I''m surprised you moved it into a setting so quickly. Earlier in this thread setting seemed far away. I do really like the setting though. Where did you get the setting and who set it?

Black light -- OK I''ll check target, and the halloween stuff that''s out.

well this thread did get bumped from last december... I think by me! lmao!!

Hi StoneHunter,

Yeah it might seem like the settings are popping up fast but as CB points out, the stones were actually aquired last december. I''ve been sitting on them until I could figure out which one I wanted for me and what type of setting design I would stick with.

As for my mom''s ring, it was a custom-modified job from Mark T. of Engagement Rings Direct. It was seemless to have this ring done and I have had a VERY pleasant experience working with him on my custom designed ring which might be ready next week (fingers crossed).

In the interim, here are some handshots of MtDew...

I''m sorry if I''ve missed it scott, but where did you find your stones?

you''re right scott it is like a color change diamond!!!!!! I love it!!!!

Hi CB,

I recall mentioning that in the "old stone specs" thread of yours :)

"I actually got two OMCs last November one for me and the other for my mom. I ended up keeping the smaller but more precisely faceted stone (being that I love patterns), and I figured my mom could use the more sizeable stone. My mom and I even went so far as naming them hehehe ... the one posted here is called Iceberg (due to its white face up) and the other which is an N color with SBF takes on an electric yellow green appearance in the sunlight, reminded us of the drink Mountain Dew and so that is the name of the other one.
The stones are antiques as per the vendor (James Allen/DCD and Rick Shatz)."

So I specificially searched through the DirtCheapDiamonds cushion search and found some pretty low colored cushions with the fluor that I was after and it so happened that those stones were sourced from a supplier in NYC (where I am lucky to live). Honestly the stones that I had pulled for my viewing werent all that great but while I was there I had the WONDERFUL experience of being able to view no less than a dozen stones within my particular specs, and all this under office fluorescent lighting. Hope this helps!

Hi CB,

I recall mentioning that in the ''old stone specs'' thread of yours :)
sorry scott... my brain is fried

CB!

Don't be sorry
9.gif
You have a huge weight on your... hand, blinding and mesmerizing you, its completely understandable to have a brief memory lapse. I am glad that you are seeing both personalities of the stone, that way you will be fully informed with your purchase decision! I hope you find that this or another stone really pulls on your heart strings and I think you'll just know...

Dont be like me and buy BOTH stones that caught my eye, albeit for different reasons
3.gif

Luckily for me, I get to inherit Mt Dew sometime in the future, so in my mind, its just on *loan* for awhile heheheheh

I am SO excited about my ring, I promise to post pics in a SMTR thread as soon as its on my fingers

Nice shots Scott!
