Custom Spessartite FINISHED!

I mentioned on an earlier thread that I was getting Jeff White to cut a spessartite for me to give to my mother on my wedding day (in TWO WEEKS!!!).

It''s finished! He sent the picture last night and is shipping the stone today. He says it''s a shade lighter in person, with absolutely no brown overtones.

It looks a little less juicy than the rough did, but I assume that it''s normal for a gem to change colour slightly when it''s cut, right?

Stats: 1.89 carats (mmm, delicious orange carats!), 7.4 x. 5.8

I''m 90% sure mom wouldn''t want a broach, but I have no idea if she would prefer a pendant or a ring, which is why I''m waiting for her to decide. My guess is she''d prefer a pendant, since she has no rings other than her wedding set. But her taste has been changing lately, so we''ll have to wait and see!

Which is all to say, I''d love ideas to share with her for BOTH pendants and rings if you have ''em.

Glad you ladies like it! I''m about 10 times more excited than my mom could POSSIBLY be.

Oooo, I could see it as both a pendant or a ring. As a ring I would set it east/west with an itty bitty halo around it to set off that gorgeous color. I can also see it set like this peridot one, again with an itty bitty halo. Of course I must disclose that I have been on a halo kick for awhile now, so disregard if you don''t like halos, LOL.

Catmom...any idea where that halo pendant is from? I have a really nice citrine I''d love to have set like that.

That is a gorgeous pendant, Catmom! My guess is my mom will want something super slick and modern.I had this idea about setting it east-west as a pendant, on a very short chain, or maybe even on one of those stiff metal collar thingies. You know, so it sits right in the small of her neck.

It's here! It's here! And I can say without reservation that it is among the most beautifully cut gemstones I've ever seen. Yes, Jeff White definitely IS the man.

GAH! I've been trying to take some pictures, but I just can't capture it. But I'll post some later anyway.
