Thought I''d start the thread today because I''m feeling fantastic. Woke up this morning, did my running program for about a mile. Decided to see if I had lost any inches by wearing a button down shirt that has notoriously been a bit too tight. Today, it fits perfectly- no cinching at all- hurray! Definitely seeing results after about a month of eating better and regular exercise.

Hope everyone else has a fantastic Thursday!

SarFar,
Glad to hear you''re having a good morning and see some progress! That always makes me feel great and keeps me motivated. I didn''t workout last night

. I worked late and couldn''t make it to the gym. It was a long day! This morning, I felt well rested and did a tape at home. I may try to workout Saturday, otherwise I won''t make my 5 day goal. My son is participating in a run this weekend so if I won''t look too funny, I may run w/him. Although I know I can''t run a mile straight, even if I walk fast and ran a little, it''ll be some exercise.

I''m starting to enjoy writing down what I eat. I think it made a difference yesterday. I barely got to eat all day yesterday due to work and when I went home, I was soooo tempted to eat bad. But I made an effort to still eat a reasonable meal and had a granola bar when I got home. Then a little later had a Lean Cuisine meal, which was good and a mango. I wanted to eat more after (not from hunger, pattern I think) but resisted. That made me feel good. I realized though, yesterday, although I had very little time to eat, I could''ve been drinking water. So I still am trying to remind myself about that.

I hope everyone else is having a good morning.

Good morning ladies!

SarFar, that''s so great that your clothes are fitting better! That''s been a big motivator for me, too, even more so than the numbers on the scale. Keep up the great work!

Dixie, it would be so cool if you could run with your son! Who cares if you look like a dork--I bet he will really appreciate it and it will be a fun thing for you to share. Sounds like you are doing really well with eating healthy. I know what you mean about being able to eat more...for me, there''s always room for more, lol!

I walked 4.5 miles last night before I got bored, ha ha. It was really nice outside and everyone''s lilacs are in bloom so it was a rather fragrant walk, too!

Monarch, thanks! I am trying w/the eating to make conscious choices. I did have a turkey sub w/cheese for lunch, but I feel like that''s ok since i''ve only had a yogurt so far to eat. I am noticing that the majority of every day is carbs for me. I am going to make an effort to get in more protein. I didn''t know that almost everything I eat has a bunch of carbs... I am learning.

Maybe tonight i''ll try to make some fish and veggies.

I''m sure it must be hard to walk such long distances every day! Keep up the good work!

Thanks Monarch! That''s a great list. I''m going to print it out and take grocery shopping!!

I forgot to add a disclaimer of sorts: these "superfoods" are best consumed as close to their pure, fresh form as possible--meaning not adding much to them as far as salt, sugar, etc.

When I go grocery shopping now, I start with the produce section and hit the middle aisles sparingly. I try to remember that the less "prepped" a fresh "superfood" is, the more I''m getting out of it nutritionally. Some advocates of a raw food diet or even vegan diets believe that the more you cook a veggie or fruit, the more you "drain" the essential nutrients from it...I don''t know how factual that is, but it makes sense when you think about it. Our bodies are made to consume fresh produce and (in non-vegetarians'' cases) lean animal proteins, as well as whole, unrefined grains (like wild or brown rice). I really like to chop up some veggies, throw them in a microwaveable dish with a splash of water and steam them for a couple minutes, then drain and add some Mrs. Dash (salt-free). Voila--add some brown rice and (if you eat meat) fish, chicken, or lean cuts of meat and you''re good to go. You can even find rice-based pasta in the organic section or sometimes in the pasta aisle...satisfies the old carb craving but isn''t derived from refined flour.

The possibilities are endless with the foods on the "superfoods" list. Yes, sometimes it''s less convenient because you can''t just take them out of a box and throw them in the microwave, and you have to shop more frequently because there aren''t artificially preserved. But once you get in the habit of sticking to the outside perimeter of the supermarket, it becomes one of those things that makes you think "hmm, why the heck didn''t I start doing this a long time ago?"

i love this list monarch, thanks for posting it...i already eat alot of the fruits and veggies on there and also the meats, proteins, i drink black tea etc...but it''s good to know what else is on the list and also the negative foods as well!
