Hi!

I am having a 2.68 carat sapphire being set east west in my old engagement ring so David is building a new yellow gold head for it. I love everything about it but am unsure about the open gallery. Doesn't it look like it window's and could use help being closed up? He kept it open to allow light in but is that something that sapphire benefit from? I prefer the look of a closed gallery on a stone like this... I think? Ha! Please tell me whether an open gallery is beneficial to colored stones :)

Here is the sapphire

Have you seen the stone in hand? Its hard to assess the stone just based on the vendor's glamorized shots. Also, its hard to tell from his renderings just how open the gallery will be.

Yes, saw it in hand and it was gorgeous but I didn't know what window'ing was and didn't know to look for it before sending it to David. I have asked him to take a look and see. I was hoping it would be set lower so I don't know if it could have an open gallery with a lower set stone. This is a whole different world from diamonds!

Coloured stones, for the most part, benefit a lot from having light come in from all around it. The window of the stone looks minuscule and the added light coming in from the slits in the basket will help it sparkle more. The CAD shows a very low set stone so I doubt it can be lowered any further.

Thanks Chrono! That's exactly what I needed to know. Excited for this to be set! By the way, could you help me understand where you see the minuscule window? I am so clueless!

Highlighted in squiggly red. It could also be a tilt window; hard to say for sure, but either way, it's really small.
