Mochi,
You’ve lost me there. Can you please explain that to me? I know he set AJ’s umbalite and she purchased that from Gene, I think? Or was it Barry? Is that what you meant?

I think that was James Meyer that did the ring for AJ

My bad. I'm getting senile; you are correct. It is James Meyer and not his son, Caleb. Or is that the reverse?

I believe it was the papa Mayer that set AJ''s garnet. Maybe I''m wrong, but I thought I read that Caleb will not set privately owned stones, which is a shame...

Too many side stones??

I like that style, but just not the workmanship on that particular ring. Is it Lan.bo4?

Chrono is proabably thinking, "oh no!! Not another halo!!."

Does Americanset or Stuller have anything?

This one is a lan.bo4. The other one was from jewe2004.

lol... you ladies crack me up.

I thought I saw an emerald cut with tapered baguettes sidestones (like a three stone mounting) by LOGR, I almost bought one, but cancelled the transaction. something like that maybe? like Icekid''s avatar?

oooh, how bout this. E/W orientation? link

TL, I''m glad you''re keeping it! I love that stone and thought the cut was fabulous! I would love to see it with some more step cuts, like a baguette or emerald.

For the setting, I asked LOGR guy to do an 9x9mm Asscher with baguettes and the total cost was right at $300, IIRC.

Hey D&T,
I think I like this one the best because even though it''s a halo (oh no!!
6.gif
), it''s very delicate. If I had my drothers, I would do Harriet''s LM spess design. I love the step cuts and the art deco appeal to it, but I can''t afford LM

Thank you Mochi, LTP, Chrono, and everyone else for their ideas.

it reminds me of the one I have. Its a pear, it is on the darker side but I love it because though darker than ideal its visible across a room and it glows in low light.

Spess''s of that color aren''t going to make everyone happy. If you''re not happy, then for sure return it.

Arcadian

Do you have a picture of your stone?

Thank you

I''ve posted it here before but have to find the thread. Its also on my flikr page (can we link those?)

BTW, I''m glad you''re keeping it. I think its really gorgeous.

Arcadian,
Thank you!!

Unfortunately, you cannot link Flikr to PS. I want to see that stone!!

Here's hoping this works!

This was taken in the darkest part of the room. It was very overcast anyway and this stone just goes glows like nuts in that type of environment. it performs well in sunlight, its just too hard to get a pic of!

I have my camera set on manual, macro, no flash

I have another that I took just for the cut itself, this dosen't really show it that well.

TL - Glad you are keeping the pretty spess. I love stories with happy endings!

Thanks Flygirl!

Arcadian,
That's a lovely stone!! Are you going to set it?? What are the specs?

Do you have mounting overload yet? here is another one.. simple solitaire with a little oomph kinda Wink Jones... what do you think?

D&T,
That's a nice setting, but I don't want a bezel for this stone because it's darker in tone.

Thank you for pointing it out though.

TL,
Won’t LOGR do any step cut settings like that? It would look nice with just 2 side baguettes. Have you looked at Stuller or American Set for something similar?

Is that the Pokey special?

Arcadian,
I like your burning spessartite. I like the variety of spessartite colours available from the slightly yellow all the way up to the reds. The red ones tend to look like it is on fire.
