Well, I found a new dress and I am just so pleased with it! My mom and I went to a little atelier yesterday, and the owner herself spent about 2 hours with me. You may recall that I initially ordered a 3-piece Monique Lhuillier dress - fitted lace jacket, full pickup skirt, and satin sash. While I thought the individual pieces were absolutely gorgeous (and, Monique''s lace is just awesome) I started to feel the aggregate effect was a bit ... much.
I think I''ve learned a lot about my body shape, etc. in the past few weeks, and what might look better on me. I''m a definite hourglass, and short-waisted. At the atelier yesterday I decided to try some drop-waist dresses just to see what they did. I also tried some true ballgowns, just to see what they looked like on me.
I ended up with a lovely Rosa Clara dress from the 2008 collection. I believe the style number is 129, and the name is "Margaret". I get the look of lace that I had with the Monique, in that it''s got an alencon lace bodice, and lace tier effects on the skirt. And the skirt - OMG it''s fabulous! It''s teeny pleated silk organza with the lace tier effects going down -- a soft A-line without the scratchy tulle underskirt, but rather ruffled organza! The effect makes the dress "swish" and "sway" when I walk. I just loved it.
I will be getting a mantilla veil to complement the dress, and I will be able to use the brooch I bought for the Monique dress at the natural waist of the bodice. The photo on the designer''s website shows it with quite a wide brooch - I will instead use mine (round) and then have some additional crystals added to the sides of the brooch. Nothing too blingy, though. The mantilla has some crystals integrated into the lace.
The dress was just very breathable, comfortable, and fun to wear - I felt like it was really flattering to my figure, and it''s got quite a fashionable design. What a relief!
