I can't wait!

PS--I paged you in a shoe help thread on BWW Freke. I could seriously use some help whenever you have some shoe-hunting time

You guys can be scary.

What would you say if I told you I delayed it further because I received an email from Mr. Peter?

Muah hahahaha....

Seriously, they are uploaded. I have to resize them...The mystery item is...different.

His answers will probably be along the lines of, ''I dunno. It''s pretty.'' But DARNED if I won''t try!

Ok, I''m super late, but HA! That made me snort coffee.

Lol Pjean!!!!

I''m having a hard time staying away from his "hiding" place today. It''s very tempting to go poke around in there and see what it looks like. I have to admit when he was talking about it and trying to see it in natural light, I did see the reflection of it in the window. Which is basically like seeing nothing.

According to FF it''s "Not really that big."

BAH! Why did I do this to myself?!

I'm confused- I thought you were free to look at it? Or were you talking about the mystery item?

I think it's good that it's not really that big. You wouldn't want a big honkin' stone that catches on everything as your daily e-ring! Well, I wouldn't.

Will you not see the stone until it's set and he proposes?

I am free to look at Dan''s stone. The mystery item (blue topaz tension set ring) is on my hand.

I''m also glad it''s not big. I think that he was thinking it would be closer in size to my 7.4ct silver topaz and the 3.95 amethyst I am normally playing with.

As for the stone being set before I see it...I don''t know. There is the distinct possibility that there will be more than one stone. I think that in that case, he will probably pick the one he likes the most, and then give the *reject(s)* to me, and then I won''t see the picked stone until it''s set and he''s proposing.

Last night we were out driving around and he said something about wanting me to pick it out because I''m much pickier than he is about these stones, and that I am going to be wearing it, he will not. So basically I think he''s pretty unenthusiastic about my decision to let him choose it, but he''s totally willing to abide by it because he knows I want some kind of surprise. I think this stems from only seeing the one stone, and it being purple in incandescent lighting, and us having cloud cover all yesterday. Today is bright and sunshiny, so I''m going to send him outside with it, and we''ll see how it goes.

I do believe Peter has something up his sleeve, he was mentioning wanting to do a new style of cut on a round spinel, and that I would see it when it''s done.

Soooooo......yeah.

Oh, goodness! I only just caught up on this entire thread. Have to say, I'm burning with curiosity about the Dan Stair stone, and I don't know how you are resisting.

So FF went outside and took the stone. He said that it's blue, but that it still has a lot of purple. He wants me to see it because he says I'm pickier about this stuff than he is.

I don't think this one is it. But I'm so torn....

ETA: I forgot to mention that he likes London Blue Topaz better.

Bummer. Maybe you should see it just to make sure.

How picky are you about cut? I wonder if a really nice native cut sapphire in the color you love would be in your budget?

I''m thinking of looking at it.

Cut depends. Did you see something? The budget is $400 with maybe going higher for the right stone...

BTW did you notice, the cutter who had the umba sapphire rough you were looking just cut one of them. Check it out when you have a chance.

I saw that...I wonder which piece of rough it was...

Good queston. I think maybe one of the more purple pieces. Also have you checked the gemtrader.com yet?

I know that if the Dan Stair stone doesn''t work out the perfect stone is going to come your way eventually.

Yeah. The only thing on gemtrader, is that round light blue sapphire. But that''s it...

I think that I''m going to pour over some other sites some more. Any suggestions?

Funny I was just listing off some gem sites for my acunpunturist this morning. She wants a red spinel :)
Well lets see, have you been to gemrite lately? Mtlilygems? ATGgems? There are always the big sites with lots of native cuts like forevergemstones.com and muticolour and Oh, whats that other big one with lots and lots of stones? I had some questions for the guy about a few stones and got some very detailed answers.

BTW I love that round sapphire on the gem trader. But I know it''s a little paler han what your after. Wonder if he has any more just a tad darker. Have yo checked out simply sapphires? Gemcal has a lot of not so great stones on their site but they have a huge inventory thats not posted.

Sorry about all the extra posts but when I use firefox I can''t edit my posts. I thought of another site. mineralminers.com

Ok. I've looked at these today:
MtLilyGems
GemRite
ATGgems
forever gemstones
GemTrader
Simply Sapphires
Natural Sapphire Company
Paraiba International
Mineral Miners
PalaGems
GemCal
Art Cut Gems
Creative Gems
Gem Fix
Colorado Gems

I'll go look at:
multicolor
AJSgems

What if I just have him propose with a plain band?

ETA: I don't mind your extra posts. I really appreciate your help!

If I were you, I''d look at the Stair stone. I think your FF is right- you''ll be the one wearing it, and what do most men know about gemstones anyway? My husband would also look at a stone and go, "Well, it''s kind of *insert color here*

He still has complete control over the setting, right? And you won''t know what it looks like once it''s set, or even when he''ll propose, so there''s still a huge element of surprise.

From the picture on DSs website, it looked like an amazing stone. And this way, you can carry it into several different lighting conditions to get a feel for how it performs.

Oh yeah AJS gems, thats the one I was thinking of!! I see nothing wrong with a plain band. Or with a stone that could be changed a few years down the line.

EBree He does have complete control over the setting, but he can''t get wild with it or anything. It''s just going to be a solitaire in white gold. His only choice would probably be 4 or 6 prongs? Because I''ve said I want comfort fit domed band. So he doesn''t get a lot of wiggle room.

I do not know what it will look like set or when he''ll propose (better not be until after April or I will owe Miracles a pair of shoes...) so there is that element of surprise, you do have a huge point with that one.

I''m starting to think more seriously about looking at the stone. He wants me to. I really don''t think he likes it. And I think your hubby''s reaction is pretty much on par with what he said.

And...I paid for it because he was out of town. Sooo...yeah.

Innerkitten We both want this to be IT. No upgrades. Yes I can have other rings, but this is the one that will be my engagement ring forever, so that''s why the amount of stress.

I''m even considering telling him to just get the second wedding band and propose with that, because it''s a bit fancier than just a plain band, but A) it''s over budget and B) he''s not down with that idea.

Bah.

Sweetie - look at the stone. Seriously. I would have LOVED to have had the kind of input you''re getting. If you don''t look at and it''s not what you wanted - you''ll regret it.

Being surprised is all well and good, but babe, be happy. And if you''re that picky - you need to look at it. It''s not a diamond. DH knew what I wanted in a diamond (well, size and color, I knew nothing about the rest) and he did his research, went out and picked it. I knew what setting I was getting (he knew I liked 6 prongs).

And yet - when the man proposed, even though I knew what it was going to look like (more or less) I was still surprised. Because he caught me off guard.

The "surprise" will only last a moment. You''re going to be wearing the ring for a lot, LOT longer than that.

Well said, gecko!

Freke- Let us know what you decide to do! If you decide to look at it, I know a few ladies around here who''d love to see photos.

hmm... it sounds to me like you may need to have a peek at Dan''s stone. See what you get for being so picky

(this is what sadly happens to me as well, it''s hard to be both choosy AND like surprises, I''ve found). I dunno, the "purple" descriptor has me thinking this is probably not your e-ring stone, lovely though its purpleness may be. you need BLUE. and there you have it.

Thanks for all of your comments guys. I''m pretty sure the Dan stone is not it, and I probably will end up taking a look at it soon. Yes, that means that pictures will also happen.

In other news, FF knows how hard I''ve been searching (hours every night, and constant emails back and forth from vendor to vendor) and because of that, he''s decided that he''s going to up my budget. He told me straight up that he doesn''t think it''s the stone and he thinks that it''s too dark, and because of the darkness, I won''t get excited about it. So back to the budget thing. He''s got some money saved up, but he said he''s ok with making some payments to the jeweler (they do have a 0% financing thing going on) and it''s possible that he could have more $$$ saved up before then. Of course, me being practical says-we''ll only increase the budget if I fall in love with something that''s more expensive than previously allocated.

Sooo...if you see anything that''s more than $400 and you think I''d love it, please please let me know.

I

you guys and I''m so grateful that you''re with me on this journey. I probably would have settled without you guys.

Freke,

How deep did an existing stone have to be to cut it to the size/shape you wanted? I went back, but couldn''t find it in the thread.

According to Peter, 5mm.

Did you find something?

I looked. I had FF put it in my hands. It throws off beautiful little rainbows.

But, it''s not the one.

Search continues. And we both think a round is the way to go.

I can''t even express how frustrated I am.

Freke, Do you not like the stone you chose??
