If I were about 3 years younger I''d be throwing a temper tantrum right now...just from discouragement.

The color is what isn''t right. The stone is beautiful...just not right.

Oh. And I''m looking into sapphires now. Maybe that will make my life easier, being that they mostly come in blue and all...

My poor sweetie. You are right though, a sapphire probably will be easier for you to find the right color. OK now, where do you want to look for that special one? Are you asking Jeff to cut one for you?
 
Well...Peter is getting spinel rough in this week (I hope) and he's created a new faceting pattern that he wants to use on the stone that he's cutting for me.

I emailed Barry earlier tonight. Hopefully I'll hear something back from him soon.

I've been pouring all over gem sites all day, but with this addition of a potentially bigger budget and therefore adding in sapphires, I really should go through it again.

And I want a round. That's huge, because not many gems are cut into rounds.

However, I've had my eye on a green sapphire for MONTHS. I think literally since January or February of this year, and it's still talking to me, but it's an oval.

Any thoughts or suggestions lovely Linda?
 
I saw a beautiful bluish green one on NSC website, it was a cushion. I just looked at it. Something is wrong with their website though, it keeps asking for a log in. People were complaining about it this morning.

I''ll see if it works in the morning and post the number to you and see if you like it. I don''t know if it is in your price range or not.
 
Yeah I don't know what the heck is going on with NSC's website, but it sucks that we can't see anything on it. It was working for a little bit earlier, but it's certainly not now...

Definitely going for round now, right? That does complicate things a bit, but we were already thinking custom cut anyway so I don''t think it will be a huge problem.

Well that sucks! This search is turning out to be crazy - I figured you''d email Jeff and Dan and Peter and you''d find the right stone much quicker since those three gentlemen are brilliant. Nuts!

I haven''t taken any pics yet. I''m pretty down about the whole thing, to be honest.

The problem with sapphires is that they are so darned expensive. I''m looking into it, but I''m thinking unless the right stone comes around, I''m going to have to stick with a spinel. I''ve seen sapphires that are in our price range and they are usually super included, awful cuts, too small or funky colors or a combination of the four. So that is looking a bit bleak.

I emailed Dan about a round sapphire, Peter is supposed to get rough in next week, Barry has been emailed, but I''m sure he''s super busy with ACS now, and I''m considering emailing some other cutters.

For the moment I think I''ll just browse online and see what comes my way.

But I''m considering putting up a deadline and cutting myself off after that, because I am far too stressed out about this.

I swear poor FF is about to pull the plug on my search. I think I''m stressing him out.

Uh oh! Maybe don''t tell him every you get irritated by it. Lol men don''t get it!

And Peter is really very good, when I was discussing a spinel with him he always seemed like he was on the same mindpath as me. I''m sure he will find something!

Not a lot, EBree...I want to see if it's a solid lead first before I get anyone else excited. But...the *person* described it as being a Vietnamese stone that is will be somewhere between an aqua and a lighter iolite. So we'll see what comes (if anything) from it.

I went to a maul store today. (Mati for Skippy and MP--the store is local) Their custom dude is supposed to call me, and I guess I'll set up an appointment with him. Just to see what he has to say.

Also, apparently Helzberg Diamonds is having a "resetting" show or something like that where they have a bunch of loose stones, a bunch of settings and they proceed to set whatever you want into whatever you want, and it's done in front of you. Yeah. So that's Tuesday. I might go just to see what it's all about.

That may be a good idea. When I wanted a three stone ring of my birthstone and my husbands, the girl working at Mati told me I could literally get any stone I wanted, they would work custom with me. It was very inexpensive, too. Helzberg and Zales are both doing re-setting sales this coming month as well. It''s worth a try!

This woman I talked to had NO IDEA what she was talking about. She was trying to convince me that pave was milgrain.

I just looked at it, smiled, nodded and said, "Uh huh."

And this was after I said under no uncertain terms that I did not want any diamonds what so ever, and she was convinced that I needed to have a ring with diamonds.

Oy oy oy.
 
The quote I got was under 300, especially if I found a setting that had at last one of the stones I already wanted, so I don''t think my quote will help you much. The two people I spoke with both knew what they were talking about, too, so that made a difference. It might be a good idea to ask to speak with their jeweler if he''s in, or ask if you can make an appointment with him.

LMAO. Sounds like my day. I told the gal at a store that I didn''t like pave.

She handed me a pave encrusted band, "Well, I know you don''t like pave, but what about something like this with all the little diamonds?"

Another thing that really bugged me was her insistence that I was not to put the rings back in the display holder things. Like I couldn''t do it right or something. It was obnoxious. I went to go put 4 of them back on the display things and she literally grabbed the ring from me to put it back the same way I was. And we all know how small rings are. She was basically grabbing at my fingers. What an obnoxious *bleep*.

MP-She took my info and told me she''s going to have him call me. According to the woman who has no idea what pave is he used to work at Tiffany''s. So yeah. We''ll see what he has to say when he calls me.

I will definitely let you guys know what happens.

And MP, don''t give Ravenna any of your business at Mati, ok?

Seriously. I was completely stunned and horrified a few times today by the lack of knowledge. Ugh. Not that I''m an expert but - come on people, LOL.

I was also disgusted by how differently I was treated today, by myself, as opposed to yesterday, when my Mom was with me. I don''t know if I look too young, or if it''s the punky short hair or what, but I get blown off far, far too often.
 
While the blue spinel colour looks great in this picture, I suspect very strong lighting is used as the tweezers in the picture looks whitened out, which means the spinel is likely on the dark side. Nevertheless, the cutting is surprisingly good.
