Its all the same stone. Funny how it changes so much in different lighting. Mystery cutter took them home and took pics of them outside for me.

He said that if I think it''s beautiful in the pictures, then I''ll really love it in real life.

I''m actually really loving that stone. I think it''s amazing color. I guess I''ll see what other people come up with, but...
 
He sure is a great cutter!!! Wish I knew who he was. I can''t even guess. I love those pictures.

Those are both really gorgeous stones, Freke!

Well, it depends on what you''re going for. The top one is very unusual and I love the green cast. I love how it looks almost steel-y in shadow and bright bright blue in sunlight. Definitely an attention getter.

The faceting on the second one is really really gorgeous. I love the way it looks out of doors (and purple is my favorite color, so there''s that). It seems a bit more standard, though.

I think I''d probably go with the first one, actually. As much as I REALLY love the second stone, the first one has a uniqueness to it that speaks more to me. Which one are you leaning towards?
 
Freke, I agree both are great! But the first one strikes me more as "your" stone... such a yummy blue. The new barry is fabulous too... but I am thinking it looks a bit dark? Did he comment on that at all?

Exactly! It seems more like what you've been looking for, somehow. I love the different colors that show up in it, too. Just lovely.

ETA: Also, you have to tell us who your mystery cutter is. He does lovely work.

You probably have to see them both in person to decide.
 
Hmmmm...You and I have similar thoughts. I don''t know what the price is on the second one yet, so that could seriously weigh in on the choice. FF needs to see them as well, and I want to see what he thinks of them, and which he prefers.

I am leaning towards one, but I want to see what everyone here thinks AND I have to get FF''s input as well.


I am so happy to have viable options!!!
 
Barry actually said that the rough for this stone "In the rough, this one stood out like a silver dollar in a mudhole." I sent another email back to him asking him to describe the color a bit more and what the depth of color was. I think that if he felt it was too dark he never would have sent it to me. I was just about to jump on that first round he showed me (because I'm massively impatient), but he stopped me from it, and told me it was too dark for an ering in his opinion.

The Mystery cutter will be revealed when I make a decision.

And Innerkitten is incorrect in guessing Michael E. The first pictures were taken in his normal photography area, which is why I screwed up the background, but the more recent pictures were taken in his backyard-which he does not ordinarily do. But fantastic guess IK!!!!

I'm wondering about the seeing them in person thing...

ETA: Barry just wrote me back, said that it's 1.2 carats, and that it's a medium blue/purple in all lighting conditions.

I say get take a look at the teal one in person. I do really like the new one too though.
 
Lol. I don''t know about the mystery cutter''s return policy. I do need to find out how BF feels about them though....
 
For anyone that might be interested, once Freke decided it wasn''t it for her, I had CWMNBN cut one of those pieces of Umba rough for me. The first piece on the left. Is looking like this

Freke those are two FABULOUS choices. I looooooooove the teal color on the first one outside. Absolutely gorgeous. I think if I could only have one, that one would be my choice because it reminds me of pretty ocean water. But the second one is nice too!

Just wondered, couldn't tell :)

I had guessed spinel because.. um... they look a little bit more.. shiny? metallic? in pictures than sapphires usually. Quite pleased to see that I guessed correctly. I think I'm getting more knowledgeable!

I think you should get them both sent too, if possible.
