Hi all! I have been engaged only two weeks and my diamond has fallen out of my setting; one of the prongs completely missing! My fiance had asked the jeweler to make a ring similar to the HW micropave. On the ring the prongs are straight up, they dont curve onto the diamond at all and one of the sides of the halo seems to be bowed. The jeweler is mortified, they have been extremely apologetic and want to get it fixed for me right away. But they wanted to send it back to the same designer to fix it, whom I dont even know. I expressed this concern to them and they understood and is now setting up a meeting with a local man to set it instead. When I asked about his company or credentials they told me he had no business name, just an individual. I am not sure at this point what to do. I''m so scared this is going to happen again and I''m not sure who to trust at this point to set my diamond. Anyone have any thoughts/ideas? Thank you!

oh gosh! i hope you get it fixed!

If you have received excellent service so far perhaps they deserve the chance to make it right? Some very good bench workers are contracted as individuals, so as long as the selling-jeweler stands behind the product that is not a problem.

The damage you describe sounds like the ring took an impact. Gold (and WG) are very hard, so the prongs can snap under duress. I recommend platinum prongs, which are soifter but far denser. They can act as shock absorbers; under duress they would bend rather than snapping, and may still hold the diamond in place.

I don`t really have any advice, but I`m sorry this has happened and glad that you didn`t lose the stone!

I don''t have any advice either, but it is so nice to have John''s voice of reason among us again.

I am sorry this happened to you. It makes your heart sink to your stomach. Hope it is fixed and all is well soon!
