Interesting. When I was in University I was an administrative assistant at a diamond company called Simayof. A lot of the diamond cutting went on in the back of the office and I used to be terrified that we would get robbed!

inner kitten, we have a Simayoff in SF..it's got huge EGL and GIA stickers plastered all over the windows and in general looks like a big ole diamond maul to me....from what you knew from working there were they a pretty good company? Now I am intrigued.

Well they seem to be known for good prices, I was at Nordstrom in San Francisco checking out the diamonds there once and she mentioned them and said that their prices seemed good. (and she didn't know I was one of their ex employees) I know that the owners cut some stones themselves and some are cut by hired cutters.
They were kind of strange employers, the whole family and most of the long time employees like to yell at each other and fight a lot in the office. Once when I worked there two of the diamond cutters got in a fight and one stabbed the other in the leg!!
