I think the more expensive the stone, the more likely she will do better with consignment because the jeweler has zero risk and zero investment. My stone is not in the league of bgrays, but because my stone will probably be priced around the mid 20's, the vendor is not buying the stone outright. She'd likely take a hit if she sold it to a jeweler because they'd probably only buy it outright if they got it for a very low price. I'd definitely try consignment first.
