I''m so glad to hear about the outcome!

Could something have been reflecting on the stone and causing the color? Was it dirty maybe? A fingerprint, smudge of something that made it look darker?

I appreciate all the feedback.

I asked that the stone be sent to Mr. Atlas. I read Mr. Atlas' comments from when Harriet went through this (and others high praise for his work) and trusted his objectivity. Mr. Atlas graded the stone an F. He also said the SI1 clarity was on the conservative side. Nice bonus! I'm satisfied.

I do still wonder what happened on the appraisal and what I was seeing. However I am trusting the AGS grade and Mr. Atlas' confirmation more than my appraisal meeting. Too many variables - is it possible his test set colors were out of order? Was the lighting the issue? Was it the angle we were looking at since the stone is mounted? I love the ring and was quesy about even sending it out yesterday. But I needed something to confirm the AGS grade.

I can't say enough good about White Flash's customer service (before, during, and after my drama). Vera and Traci have been great to work with.

I am so glad! I thought something was up there with your original appraisal. Unfortunately any number of things could be factoring into it...appraising is subjective and if he's only been an appraiser for a few years then it's possible he just doesn't have the experience to know how lighting, dirt, settings, etc. affect it? Or maybe he did have his test stones out of order...Who knows.

But I would trust Dave Atlas for sure. He's very honest, objective, and good at what he does.

And I haven't worked with Vera, but I agree Traci rocks!

That is a strange one.
If Dave says it is an F then it is an F.
Glad it worked out!!!

I''m glad it all worked out for you.

Oh, that is a happy ending! Scary that the appraiser could be that far off, though.

Wow. Glad that one worked out. Was there perhaps some gunk in the ring that was reflecting color through the stone?
Was the master set a lot smaller than your stone? The bigger a stone gets the more color shown in each color grade so maybe the master set was too small for your stone?

ETA: also what metal is the setting the stone is in?

Phew!

Each diamond in the master set was a decent bit smaller than my diamond. Good point. I have the whiteflash flush fit setting with sidestones and the surprise diamonds, in 18k white gold.
