Do Emerald cuts always appearing darker compared to round?

Sorry I don’t have a photo but I was at my local jeweler and she showed me a 2-3ct emerald solitaire in a classic simple four prong gold setting. Even with jeweler’s lighting, this emerald was absorbing all the yellowness of the gold and appeared dark compared to my simple (not ideal) round brilliant ER. She was trying to sell it to me but I can’t help but notice even in the store or with outside lighting, it still look darker. Is this always the case even with the best cut emerald? :(
 
I'm not an expert, but I don't think they are all dark. I've seen some are really bright and beautiful emerald cut diamonds. It's a different kind of light return, but can still be stunning. It's all in the cut.
 
Yeah. It's probably just that particular EC. I went to Tiffany's once with a friend back in like, 2011. We tried on this GORGEOUS 6ct EC ring. Got me to start appreciating "angular" cuts. Man, I wish I had taken a pic...

I think ECs often appear whiter than MRBs. :confused2:
