Do people not send thank you cards anymore?

I am all about thank you notes, even for simple things like a nice dinner. I have monogrammed stationery that I use for this. I do not think they are outdated, I think they are a hallmark of good manners.

I just wanted to add- I get a little crazy with thank you card when I have time.

I bought my first house when I was 26 and single. My friends got together and threw me a housewarming. I handmade all my thank you cards- tracing a picture of the house, rendering it and drawing little illustrations of all the great things they got me and how they would be used. It took me like three nights and I had the best time doing it!

I send thank you cards but not to my immediate family. (Just my parents and siblings.) Everyone else gets them, although now that I''m older I don''t get too many presents from anyone who is not immediate family so I don''t write them too often. I mostly just send them to my grandparents and my future in laws.

We will definitely write them for every gift we get at our wedding, too.

I always send thank you notes.

I don''t send thank you cards if the gift was opened in front of the giver (and able to thank them personally). For any other gift, extra special service, unusual kindness, etc I send thank yous. When our son was first born I sent thank yous for his first gifts and my immediate family said they''d rather not receive them because it made them feel like they were not "close" relatives.
