Do vendors start making the ring before payment?

I have a weird question. We just finalized the order for my ering (!!!!) and received the invoice and bankwire instructions for my custom ring. Since it is custom, will they start working on it right away? We are bank wiring the money on Monday. On the order tracking it says my order is finalized and complete. I just wasn''t sure how it worked but it looks like they''ve already started working on it because the order says complete (not pending or something). My boyfriend thinks its usual that they would start working before receiving payment. That would be great if vendors actually started work right away because we want to make sure we have the ring before we go away on July 29. But I wasn''t sure if that''s how it worked. Any ideas? and thanks!

I think it depends on the vendor...BGD is making my setting and they did not start work until after payment was finalized (maybe call vendor?)

I doubt they would start working on a ring before receiving payment. That wouldn''t be very smart on the jeweler''s part...what if you just walked away without ever paying?

Ditto. Payment = contract, so they won''t start until after the contract has been signed (payment received).

Hm thanks for all of your responses. We got an email back today with our ship date (+ or - 1 day....we want the ring by a specific date in July so we emailed to check if it is possible). So just as long as the ship date remains more or less the same then I don''t mind if they start today or Monday after the bank wire is received. Anyhow, thanks for the helpful responses!
