Earring post! And I suppose it goes for short necklaces, too ....

See, I love my rings. I stare at them every day. I love my pendant: I wear it on a 20" chain, so it's right there in plain sight if I want to admire it (though, you know, I'm at least a little more subtle about admiring my own cleavage). But when it comes to earrings, I'm wondering how many of us prioritize them a little less - or, for that matter, who here loves, loves, loves their earrings and treasures them most of all their possessions!

See, I do love earrings - I have a huge collection of semi-precious and costume earrings. Enormous blue enameled silver crescents, Bohemian garnet, you name it. But when it comes to spending diamond dollars, I'm hesitating a little. Maybe it's knowing that so many people automatically assume diamond studs are fakes ... maybe it's knowing I'll only appreciate them in the mirror ... maybe it's wondering if me and my strong features and long hair need huge earrings to make an impact, and I'm nervous that my intended range of 1 to 2 carats total weight will just disappear. Talk me off the ledge? Or, if you're so inclined, convince me to take the plunge? :rodent:

Ever since I had my side stones put into earrings I don't love them AS MUCH. I can't see them. I want to put them in another ring so I can stare at them :saint: :saint:

Well, I've got 2 inches of hair, so my earrings are quite visible, and I bug puffy heart them.

I love my studs because they make me feel more confident. Tex if I feel like one huge pimple I just try to think who is going to look at my pimple when they can look at my sparklies?
Having said that I chose a pair of 0,25ctw studs in white gold buttercup settings because heck no that I am spending loads on something that I can't ogle all the time. Although I have small earlobes and with the way the are set, my earrings look larger that practically everyone I have seen IRL ( live in Sweden, there has got to be something good about living in the land of tiny diamonds and no jewlery intreset).

I love my martini studs, I can only wear a wedding band at work and stud earrings and I have to wear my hair pulled back or up so my earrings are pretty out there.

I have very long dark brown hair, so my earrings can be **extra** difficult to see, yet I think my diamond/pearl studs illuminate my face when they peak through.

I feel improperly dressed without my earrings.

In a way it is like underwear - I know I feel better in a nice set, just because it isn't immediately visable doesn't mean I don't enjoy having something special on.

nope!!

I can't leave home without my earrings. I dont wear much jewelry, usually just a small pair of diamond or pearl studs and my wedding set. I feel naked without my earrings!!

I looked at that title, "Do you enjoy jewelry *you* can't see?", and I thought . . . . well, I thought . . . . maybe this is a thread about piercings in places unseen, or vajazzing, or . . .

Well, it coulda been. We've had 'odd' topics before. I'm just sayin'.

What do you consider would be the 'proper' distance to judge 'eye-clean' for that particular adornment?

Up close and personal :naughty:

It seems silly when you think about it, but yes I enjoy the jewellery I can't see. I can't really see a 20 inch necklace. I can see 24 inch. I can't see earrings even if I'm looking in the mirror, unless I move my hair, which is why I don't have diamond studs. :nono: I think sometimes though, it's also about touch. Just being able to touch a piece (kind of like a worry bead concept?) brings on a positive response for me. I do prefer rings since they are very visible. Same with bracelets and watches, although at home I don't like wearing them and knocking them on everything.

vajazzing.... my new favorite word :) :D

Pendants are probably my favourite pieces to wear - they are very flattering.

When I was younger, I had a thing for earrings and quite a collection. Then, I began to wear a pair of tiny silver drops all the time, which were eventually substituted for mytiny diamond studs.

I am enjoying seeing my martini studs from WF on my DD. Way more than I did when I wore them... :cheeky:

But the answer is yes, I love all my pieces, if I can see them or not..

I like that my diamond studs make me feel a bit more polished. Understated, yet add a bit of something. However...

Would I try to find ACA's again for them? Nope. I just can't appreciate the details of them and would not pay the premium again. I know that the better cut they are, the more they shine and sparkle, but my friends maul earrings sparkle too. Plus my earrings are nearly impossible to keep fantastically clean so they're rarely in top sparkle form.

I just bought a pendant, and I love it, even though I can't see it unless in a mirror. Probably because it's more centered and bam! - visible. It's also not just a simple solitaire pendant, which I probably wouldn't enjoy as much as my stud earrings.

So the short answer is, yes I enjoy my jewelry, but not as much as my rings.

I adore rings, always have, always will...but I understand about the earrings, I dont own a pair of real diamond studs, I have alot of earrings, but I seldom wear them, not sure why. I dont wear near as much jewerly as I did when I was younger...but I do love my sparkly rings

My thoughts exactly.

I've really gotten into earrings and pendants lately, but other than my OEC studs and jackets, all of mine are colored stones. I like that I don't have to worry about them when I'm cleaning, washing, or shoving my hands into my pockets. My latest find is a pair of dangly diamond halo earrings for a pair of garnets, and I can't wait to get them set. I actually do see them more than I thought I would - I love catching the reflection in the car window!

I have a diamond solitaire pendant that is 1.12ct on a 17" chain that I hardly ever take off. I wear it with T-shirt and Jeans, gym clothes or office wear. I have taken it off on occassion when I wear jewelry that totally clashes with it (like hippy hanging bead earrings), but for the most part I love that it goes with everything, and makes everything look classier. When I'm not wearing it, I feel naked, like I took off my wedding set for a day. I actually bring my hand up and touch it several times a day without really realizing it, and sometimes I have a mild panic attack when I don't find it hanging around my neck.

I sure do enjoy my earrings and pendants. I see them multiple times a day in various mirrors. I think they really enhance my face and dress up my outfits. I enjoy wearing nice clothing as well, even though I don't spend a lot of time looking at it myself. It's about the image you present to others more than staring at it yourself.

That!

Though, unlike underwear I do see my earrings quite a bit - windows, blank computer screens, shiny surfaces ::)

Earrings are low on my priority list. I like to see and play with my jewelry. Rings and bracelets are first, necklaces next. Earrings are usually an afterthought.

Great analogy. I love earrings, but now that you mention it I do tend to buy more of the "I can see it" variety.

Mmm. Tough one. Yes, I do miss not seeing jewelry on my earlobes. But still, I wear nice earrings. I do tend to be much more of a cheapskate on earrings though. I did luck out intensely and got some filigree antique late Victorian chandelier OMC earrings with something like 3.5cttw, and I love them. But I only spent something like $600 on them. And that's my upper limit with earrings pretty much.

As for studs, I will never get larger diamond studs myself. I've got some great, um, 8mm each white stones with an OEC cut, that are bezeled & millgrained and good things like that, that I wear. But my long hair grubbies up my earrings so fast, studs stand no chance. Earrings that are interesting beyond being just a diamond are really necessary.

If you've got long hair, and wear it down a lot, studs may be kind of a pointless expense for you too... but some people adore them, y'know? Personally I tend to wear the chandelier earrings a couple times a week, and some fairly ornate Tahitian pearl and diamond earrings when I'm not wearing those, and the, um, white stone OEC bezel studs a few days a week. I get compliments on the chandeliers and occasionally the pearl earrings, but not the studs. I don't think people even see them, even with their larger size, under the bushy hair. And long hair = hair grub on studs. Even if it's squeaky clean (and frankly mine isn't; with long curly hair I can't wash it every day unless I want to resemble a poodle, so the fact that I wash my hair about every two to three days is not helpful either.) YMMV of course!

It could be that you've found your earring "sweet spot" with the more interesting semi-precious ones. That's what my mom wears most of the time, and they're really pretty on her.

Yes! I love love love earrings. I just make sure to stare at my unseen jewelry in the mirror :) I have yet to buy an expensive pair.

Even If I'm wearing no other jewellery, I wear earrings, and for the last year or so it's been a pair of plain silver studs.
Just recently I was given so money to pick out something special, and now a teeny pair of WF ready-set-gos are coming my way.
I'm very excited.
For me, having real stuff is a mind-clean issue, and I'm looking forward to wearing earlobe bling.
I don't think I'll ever wear huge rocks on my ears, but the amount that I wear earrings justifies a quality pair.

Y'all are making a lot of interesting points ....

I think I'm leaning towards buying a pair, but from a dealer with an excellent upgrade policy: if, after a year or three I find myself gnashing my teeth about the opportunity lost (in my hair), I'll swap 'em in for something. After all, it's not like the shiny obsession is going anywhere ....

So! Just started a thread over in RT. Anybody wanna help me decide what to get for my invisible jewelry? :rodent:

Ding ding ding, we have a winner! Steal summed it up for me quite well. Pretty soon I hope to set my pair into earrings and I'm really excited. I don't feel like I'm as put together as I'd like to be without some sort of classy stud.
