Do you get Botox? Why or why not?

My assumption is some people care about looking youthful and some don’t. And it’s a whole spectrum of how much we care.

Maybe instead of Botox I need to make a few more friends that don’t give a rip about aging showing up on their face. Each path is valid but for me it’s about feeling comfortable and wanting to belong.

Yes but Kenny is stating that people that use botox are not honest nor of good character.

I don't think my friends that take care of themselves via injectibles are less honest, are of less good character or integrity than those that don't.

I haven't done Botox, and I won't be doing it in the future.
I am aging. Things are sagging, and wrinkles are happening. I have no control over this. I have not colored my hair.
I use makeup, and wear clothes that fit.
And of course I wear lots of jewelry.

That's all I can do, and I'm ok with myself.

No Botox or fillers or even hair dye here. I plan to age naturally so if that means I go out looking like a Shar Pei, then so be it.

Not to toot my own horn but one of my co-workers was shocked that I’m 44, he thought I was in my 30’s. So hopefully that continues.

ETA: Actually If I was going to do anything it would be a breast reduction and lift. Maybe then they will stop slapping into the doorknobs :roll2:

Girls, don't fret.
There's always hope.

I have not tried Botox yet, I’m 50. I’m not opposed to it, good Asian genes have kept my face pretty wrinkle free for the most part, but my neck is a different story. If Botox worked on wrinkly necks, sign me up!

Nope, and no to colouring my hair or other beauty treatment except a monthly hair cut.

I do use serums for brows and eyelashes, that's it!

I prefer being able to use all the muscles on my face.

DK :))

What serum do you use?

I have terrible migraines. 3 day puking affairs. Often. Does this truly work? Can you give a price if you're comfortable? I just want to live without pain.

I think insurance will kick in. If you’ve showed you’ve tried other remedies that do not work. I take Relpax for my migraines.

I would do Botox if I weren’t cheap lol. All my disposable income goes to Jewelry.

I am in UK, and use Uklash's eyelash and brow serums.

Only started the brow serum 3 days ago, so waiting for the results.

The eyelash serum works on my short and strong oriental eyelashes for certain, highly recommended.

DK :))

I’m in my 30’s and I’ve been noticing almost all my friends are doing this! I’m surprised! Also wondering if I’m missing the boat?

This is fascinating. Most of my cohort is a few decades older and I do not know a single person who has gotten this. (Then again, they may not tell me.) I'm amazed that this sort of thing starts so early.

My wife is fond of looking at a semi-unflattering photo that someone is fretting over and asking them, "You know who is gonna love this photo in ten years? You!"

Nope. Never.

I don’t judge those who do but I’m happy to get older and embrace my aging. I don’t think getting older and aging is synonymous with unattractive but realize I’m in the minority. I am comfortable in my own skin wrinkles and all.

I also don’t love the fact young women and maybe men are facing unrealistic expectations about appearance. So much pressure from social media to look “perfect”. It’s setting them up for psychological issues IMO but that’s another story for another day.

Love me some Botox! I won't get fillers again but I have a standing appointment for Botox. And I swear by laser treatments. I have a strong brow and have had the 11s between my eyebrows since I was in my 30s. I love that I don't look angry all the time with Botox lol. But I don't get so much that I can't make expressions. It's a fine line between just enough and too much. My advice is to always go to a trained dermatologist or plastic surgeon. This is definitely not where you look for a bargain!

We live in a damned if you do/damned if you don't world. It's exhausting. If you want any cosmetic procedure, get it. If you don't, don't. But don't listen to people who judge you either way. They aren't worth your time.

I've read that, because Botox is technically a toxin, EVERY SINGLE BATCH is tested on rabbits. Which means my individual use of it could result in more animal testing.

Since I don't need it for medical reasons (like migraines) I won't use it.

Also, the HIV issue :eek-2:

Wow I didn’t know that. Just another reason not to get it. Unbelievable. Inhumane. Poor rabbits :(

I value stuff that matters more (to me) than struggling to look young forever ... integrity, honesty, authenticity, and good character, good work, and other qualities which are not skin deep and fleeting.

Yes. 100 percent agree.
True beauty is not skin deep.
True beauty comes from within and all the fillers and Botox in the world cannot change who a person is on the inside.

I have not. Mid 50’s. I probably would benefit from Botox or similar but I can’t bring myself to inject foreign substances especially after the medical issues I have had. I had a terrible time with osteomyelitis (in my face!) and infections frighten me to tears.
I use good creams, exercise, try to hydrate, stay happy and sleep well. No judgement on anyone else’s practices though. People vary

Yep get Botox every 6-7mths. I have creases between my eyebrows that make me look permanently cranky. When I was 47 I finally thought nope I’m finally going to do it. Best thing I ever did. Now aged almost 53 and I go to a qualified doctor. I don’t dye my hair - I stripped the colour out after the second Covid lockdown herein Australia - but I get my nails done every 3wks. I very rarely drink, don’t smoke and am a self funded semi-retIree.

If others think that a bit of Botox is showing low values then you are living a very judgemental life IMO.

That's where threads come in!

I do not use Botox cosmetically, but it has been a lifesaver for me for my clenching. I get 30 units ever 4 months or so into my masseter and deep masseter.
At 30 I did braces, bite balancing, facial exercises therapy, and wore a custom night guard. I don't grind my teeth, I clench them. 24/7/365. None of that helped. Botox does though. I can always tell when it's time to get in. I used to have to get about 60 units every 3 months, but as the muscles have atrophied over the years I've been able to reduce the amount and frequency.
I'm not opposed to doing it cosmetically, but so far haven't seen a need for it for myself. I'd like slightly fuller lips, but would rather do a laser treatment series to stimulate collagen production over fillers. Hasn't made it to the top of my priority list though.

not even on my radar

i dont even know anyone who has had it

I'm pretty much the same, except I do color my hair and have started using the Grande Brow serum. I'd let my hair go gray, but only one side is really gray so I think it would look strange.

ive only gone gray in the front
but its white not gray
i look like my grandma (who was at least 70)
so i do colour mine

I absolutely love botox! Well I actually get dysport. I’m in my mid thirties and just felt like I looked sucked dry after my 2nd was born. I get very minimal- 10 units in forehead and 5 in between brow area. It makes me happy. Also my husband stopped constantly asking me why I’m so angry! I grew up watching my Mom constantly complain about her 11’s so when my forehead started to make me feel a bit down I decided to do something about it. Im pretty low maintenance and don’t even color my hair but the little bit of dysport every 4-5 months is my self care and makes me feel so confident.

This. I’ve cracked a tooth and it’s made me think that I really need Botox for medical/dental reasons. Don’t know a good doctor for that so that’s putting me off Botox for now. If anyone would like to rec a good doc in Singapore then TIA!

Appearance naturally changes as we age.
If you fight it at age 30, what are you going to do at 40?
50?
60?
70?
etc.

Flighting age-related appearance is a losing battle.
I enjoy the victory of accepting my natural appearance in my 40s, 50s, 60s ...
I value that victory over losing feeling just fine about how I look. (and I save a ton of money)

Another value thingie ...
I value stuff that matters more (to me) than struggling to look young forever ... integrity, honesty, authenticity, and good character, good work, and other qualities which are not skin deep and fleeting.

You can value all of that while looking good you know? It’s not mutually exclusive.

I don’t get Botox (terrified of needles) but do use serums, creams, sunscreen and dye my hair.
I like how it makes me look.
I'm also aware that ageism is a thing and pretending it’s not won’t help me get ahead at work which will disadvantage me and my family. I also wear makeup, same reasons.
I don't think I’m being false, fake or shallow - it’s not like anyone could think my hair is naturally pink for example.
I think I’m using social expectations to my advantage and also I’m showing I respect my employers and friends by being clean, tidy and well presented.

I have gotten Botox just in my TMJ due to jaw clenching- I was waking up every night at 4 am with awful tension headaches and tons of pain over the joint and surrounding muscles and a little Botox helped immensely. Haven’t done it for anti aging but I think it can be a good medical tool. And if someone wants to try it cosmetically and likes the results why not- for me I don’t have deep lines/wrinkles and like to have full expressive range. But who knows if I’ll change my mind in the future. In general I like the theory of looking my age but good/well groomed for my age not trying to look younger than I am, but I’m only in my mid 40s.

But like you say… maybe no one is talking about it?

@ItsMainelyYou, If I recall correctly @AprilBaby had Botox to treat migraines. I believe she said it helped a great deal and insurance paid a majority of the cost. I’m sorry you suffer from migranes. They are awful to deal with.
