Just wondering if most of us here insure our e-ring/jewelery and with which insurance company.

I have my Ritani set insured with Chubb, but not my other pieces.

I have my ring insured on my home insurance policy. When I upgraded to my 1ct diamond, my insurer refused to cover it, so I had to change to a different one.

Its covered for accidental damage, and theft at home and abroad.

Yes!!!! I definitely insure! I insure all of my pieces that I purchased for more than 1k, so there are a couple of pieces that I didn''t think were worth insuring. I use Jewelers Mutual and I am very happy with their service.

I just have my wedding set insured through my homeowners. I am seriously considering using Chubb though, I heard good things about them.

Yes I have everything insured under our home policy also. They cover my jewelery inside and outside the home.

I''ve looked into insurance and the premiums are too high for what it is. I can replace my jewelry, so nothing is insured.

Yes. E-ring, w-band, and a couple pairs of earrings, all with Jewelers Mutual. Never had occasion to make a claim, but the application process was super easy, and I''m satisfied with the premium.

i''ll carry a rider for my e-ring and wedding band. everything else would fall under the general policy if lost or stollen, so until the rest of my *collection* gets upgraded that the only real thing I need covered.

No, it''s not insured. But when we sort out our renter''s insurance it will be insured under it as they insure any individual item up to a certain amount. I don''t know if it will cover theft outside of the home though so I guess I should check on that...not that I''ll probably do anything differently no matter the answer.

I have my e-ring insured on a separate rider. I have a blanket jewellery policy on homeowners. I could replace most anything I have except for sentimental pieces. There is no insurance for that kind of thing.

I have my set insured under a seperate Valuable Personal Property policy with USAA.

My ering and my 3 stone are insured through a personal articles policy attached to our State Farm homeowner insurance. I have been contemplating switching to Chubb.

I have my jewelry that is valued over $2000 per item insured by a rider attaced to our homeowners policy. A pair of diamond studs went missing a few years ago and they paid the appraised value within two days. Well worth it, to me.

My e-ring is insured. That's it. I have been thinking about this over the past few wks...that at minimum I should have a extra rider on our homeowners that covers my jewelry. My e-ring is insured with Chubb though. I inquired about purchasing extra coverage for my collection with my homeowners ( I think I do have a small blanket policy), and the sales rep told me that I need to have everything appraised first....does that sound right? I am kind of clueless when it comes to this kind of stuff....All I thought of was how much of a PITA it would be to have everything appraised....Yet, if anything was stolen/lost/damaged, I wouldnt be able to replace most of it...at least right away. Hmm... what to do?

I have a seperate rider for my Ering and studs. No insurance on an emerald cut ring, an OMC ring, and a soon to be Aqua reset. They were all inherited and are of sentimental value. I wouldn''t, and couldn''t ever replace them.

That''s what my rider on the homeowners requires. But it doesn''t necessarily have to be incredibly through. I chose to pick a through appraiser though so that if it did get stolen they would have to replace it with a very specific match. I don''t know what you have by you, but where I live their is an appraiser who comes to the house, which is nice so you don''t have to drag all your uninsured jewelry out of the house.

I just remembered, I have more diamond jewelry now.

However, because they are not terribly expensive pieces, I won''t insure them either.

None of my jewelry is insured although I''m always saying that I''m going to call the lady and find out what I need to do to at least get my wedding rings insured. We have renters insurance through Allstate and I know that we can get a rider but I''ll have to have my rings appraised first and I don''t even know where to start with that.

My ering and wband are both insured - our renter''s insurance has some sort of limit, that it has to be more than $500 or $1000 (I can''t remember which) to have its own rider, and after that it''s just insured in a lump with everything else in our house.

Our jeweler was very adamant that the e-ring have insurance before it leaves the store - I thought that was pretty cool, because I think a lot of people think "oh, it''s not like something would happen to it in the first week..." but things do happen. I heard a horror story (probably an urban legend) once where a woman was proposed to in a restaurant, she went to the restroom and, not used to wearing a ring, took her ring off and put it on the sink as she washed her hands. Then she left and went back to the table. Her new FI noticed that she returned without the ring - so she went running back to the restroom and the ring was already gone.

If it didn''t really happen, it EASILY could.

You''re right, too many people think, if I''m careful, what could happen? Anything can.

It DID happen...
BF got me a gorgeous David Yurman piece for our first Christmas... apprx $1200... Had it for about a month and a half. I wasn''t used to wearing that large of a ring and I would take it off to wash my hands. Well I was in an airport restroom, washing my hands, heard them call for my flight to be boarding... walked off without it. Got on the plane, realized it was gone... went back off the plane looked EVERYWHERE (even kiosks). It was gone! On top of that... The stuardess said I was wasting their time, and sent the plane without me. The plane went with my purse, my cell phone, and my carry on luggage. It was the worst day of my life!!! I ended up giving myself pink eye from crying so hard, and a lovely woman from Spain let me borrow her cell phone to call my BF and tell him the horrible news.
He surprised me by replacing my ring for Valentine''s Day that year... but we immediately got this one insured. I ALWAYS wash my hands with my ring on now. A wet ring is better than no ring.

Huh? Too expensive? Good grief, where do you live that a rider on your existing homeowner''s or renter''s policy for your rings/fine jewelry would be too high?

I can''t replace my w-ring and e-ring easily, but I can certainly pay my yearly premium in one lump sum payment without even blinking.

I live in NYC. As an example, the premium on my 3k watch was $300/year. No ering, but if I get one over 15k, I'd insure it.

I have a $2500.00 RHR, a $4000.00 Diamond Tag and a lot of gold jewelry from my fathers family, but nothing is insured. I wear my ring and my watch everyday (except I dropped my ring off at the jewelers today

8.gif
I''m naked) and I''ve decided to insure everything when my ring gets back. It''s stupid of me to walk around with fine jewelry on a daily basis and not have it insured.
15.gif
I keep putting it off though.

I can''t replace my jewelry for several reasons, so I should have insured them a long time ago.

It''s one thing I don''t insure. I''ve looked into it several times but never got off my ass to do anything about it. We paid just over $8,000 but have a the jeweller''s valuation for $12,000. I know I should do it.

It''s funny, because I insure my house and contents, car and health but not my ring.

I had a fair collection of fine jewellery at one time, but the premium on our homeowners'' policy was terribly high because of that. Instead, I put the pieces I didn''t wear every day in the safety deposit box, and insure only my e-ring and w-ring. Definitely inconvenient, but if I plan far enough ahead, quite doable.
20.gif

I should add here that my planning skills are next to nil so occasionally I go to the safety deposit box and enjoy what''s left of the pretty pieces in the safety of the bank''s "little room"

Most of my jewelry is covered under my homeowners insurance (Allstate) but recently I got Travelers Insurance for my EC E-ring.

We recently switched from Chubb. I think I have good coverage and only needed to have appraisals and separately insure items of high value. Otherwise, I am covered no matter what. (if I get it correctly, since I am not sure how this policy is really different from the Chubb one, but hubby says it is and it saved money on premiums so there you go).

Wow, what a bummer, all of it.

I''m glad you got it replaced, but sorry you learned the hard way.

i am glad to know that i am not the only lazy person out there. sadly, i assumed my jewelry was covered under out home owners policy, but now im not so sure. i keep meaning to call and ask, but totally get side tracked. its really bad of me. i do think i need apprasials for everything though, and current ones, not the ? year old ones i have. what is the average appraisal price, 75 bucks? so that''s like 75 * 10. uh, so it would cost 750 dollars to have 10 things appraised? holy &&&^! i could buy a nice piece of jewelry for that money! see how i think, its trouble... i dont wear a lot of them often, so i probably woundt bother having them all insured. and the ones i got on a bargin, i could rule those out too. i guess i have to boil it down to the important ones and go from there.
