Maybe you know blue kyanite, but do you know there are orange and green ones?
I share a group of kyanite, the colors include green, orange, blue-green, and blue. All samples are larger than 4ct

Is kyanite hard enough to be set?

Kyanite has a hardness of 4-5 in the C-axis direction and a hardness of 6-7 in the vertical C-axis direction. It can be set but should be careful in process.

Absolutely settable and often marketed by the sales folks at the stores as an affordable alternative to rich blue sapphires.

Unscrupulous sellers in Burma pass them off as sapphires to unsuspecting buyers.

Left side 0.85ct blue sapphire. Right side 2.97ct blue kyanite n cost a fraction of sapphire.

I have a few very beautiful blue kyanites for my self setting projects. I’ve set a couple before. I have also shattered one before while trying to reset it. Yup, it is that fragile! That said, you are probably okay with buying earrings and a pendant as long as you are careful with them.

I would consider kyanite jewelry set in inexpensive settings, e.g. silver, 10k gold, but definitely would not pay fine jewelry prices. They are beautiful natural stones after all, which in a way, has its attraction compared to a lab sapphire.

When I got my diamond earring jackets, I decided to build a collection of stud earrings in different colors.\ I opted to use kyanite for a temporary blue fix until I could find a pair of top colored sapphires. But over time, I haven't felt the need to replace them as they are a beautiful blue and no one knows they aren't sapphires :)

I have a beautiful, very slightly included kyanite ring that chips If I look at it wrong. It has two spots of damage that came from wearing it.

Don't mean to be rude with the laugh react but I LOL'd when you said "if I look at it wrong"! I'm scared of getting softer stones for this very reason; I'm a klutz, and I'd be scared to ruin such pretty pieces!

I smiled when I saw that you laughed. Didn’t take it as rude at all.
