Hello,

Still looking for a dress for my elopement which is coming in two weeks!

I tried this one on yesterday, and I liked it, but it was more than I wanted to spend. I don't think the pictures do it justice here. The shiney pins at the shoulders are quite stunning. They make it look vintagey to me. My issue other than price is the neckline. Is it too much cleavage for a wedding dress? There is quite a bit showing, and I don't usually show mine...

But still very pretty.

Neiman's

If you feel like getting a better view, it's on this site, click platinum, and it's the third dress in... That picture more accurately shows the boob issue I am having

BM

(Dress number 8 on the bottom with the cap sleeves looks stunning too, but I have not seen it in person, nor do I know how much it costs. I'd love to find a store that sells it.)

Wow, it''s a great dress!! But I definitely see your point about the cleavage, especially in the picture on the BM site. A flatter-chested woman I think could get away with it, like a b-cup and smaller. It''s going to defnitely show a lot cleavage on a bigger chest--although a good seamstress might be able to fix that up without changing the lines or look of the dress.

Wow, that dress is gorgeous. I personally think the cleavage is ok since the ceremony will intimate with only the two of you.

I love it!!

Hey cushion!

It is a pretty dress, but I don''t show my cleavage either and I would be uncomfortable wearing that dress. It looks like it comes all the way down to the bottom of the bust line, that''s deep!

Did you buy that vintage lacey dress or was that someone else?

I love that dress! And I think the only reason the cleavage looks so, well...cleavage-y (technical term) is that the BM model has very high and noticeable fake boobs. On the Neiman''s model, it looks much nicer. All that being said, if you think you are going to be uncomfortable in it, then it wouldn''t be the best choice. Any chance you can try it on?

Thanks - I'm glad you guys like it. Yes, it comes ALL the way down to the bottom of the bust line. I hadn't thought about trying to have a seamstress work on it... That might be an idea. I did try it on. I liked it very much. I'm a C/D cup so it's a bit overflowing, if you know what I mean - much like on the BM model - only mine aren't quite as wonderful looking as hers.

(I am the one who bought the lace dress. It is still here in my home, but I am 99% sure I am bringing it back tomorrow. I feel anxious every time I think of it, I don't think that's a good sign.)

Ah, yes that anxious feeling is torture! If you''re having those feelings, definitely take it back. I hope you find the perfect one!

I can''t get into the BM site, so I can''t see the boob pic.. anyone wanna take a screen shot for me?

Anyways.. its a pretty dress.. but.. I DON''T think its worth $800 for a dress that doesn''t even look like a wedding dress.. Sorry to be kind of harsh about it.. .I know you''re not looking for a dress that looks like a "wedding dress".. but you could find a dress like that a lot cheaper.

Yeah - MelissaSue, I certainly hate the price. I don't really want to spend more than $500. The one perk I could think of though, with it REALLY not looking like a brides dress, and it being beige and all, is that I actually could wear it again - like to another wedding - As opposed to buying an ivory dress that I probably couldn't wear again, because you can't wear white/ivory to a wedding... (See how I find ways to justify spending too much money on things?) Still thinking about it...

Ooh, I love that gown & it''s a steal at $299. (I will not be a 2 dress bride, I will not be a 2 dress bride, I will not be a 2 dress bride...

)

I think the gown from Neiman is also gorgeous & it''s likely you could have a seamstress take in the bust area so there''s less cleavage if you like. It seems much more formal to me than your first dress, though. Where are you eloping again?

I LOVE the dress! I really think that you could work with a seamstress to make the boobie area a bit more "modest"

And although I would probably not buy an $800 dress (a coat, purse or watch, hell yeah!), I say go for it. It is after all a Badgley Mischka, and you''ll feel like a million dollars in it!

Thanks for posting that site and finding that dress. I like that one, but not enough to buy, and dind''t see any others unfortunately...

Brightspot - I love that you called me a "two dress bride" -- that is hillarious!!! My fiance thinks otherwise, of course - especially since I can only get store credit at the first store (which may have to go to stunning vintage pearls
30.gif
)

We are getting married on the private balcony of our room at Bacara. It is a full panoramic view, on a "cliff" and you can hear the waves from the room... We''re going to decorate to balcony with tons of flowers - I have not figured out which color. Afterward we''ll go take sunset pictures on the ocean, and then have a private dinner served to us on our balcony. I think it will be peaceful and romantic...

At first I was thinking I''d be casual/beachy, but now I''m thinking it might be fun to be kind of glamorous and formal... I am heading out today to return the dress and hit another couple of shops. So far this BM is a top contender. Keep your fingers crossed for me!

I love it!

i like the dress, especially the back, but NOT the price

See how I find ways to justify spending too much money on things?

This one needs no justification for me - it looks like one true blue blast in the pics. NM is one of the shops I know I can order blindly from - sizes always fit! I am probably the only customer they have in Bucharest
3.gif

Anyway... the style looks like one of those that were fashionable 100 years back and forth from the current date. And I am sure this is what the price is about - a dress that will not catch dust in a drawer until it gets decently worn out
31.gif

Need more justification?

Wish there was a deal somewhere

Valeria! You''re still on pricescope? I didn''t know! I''m glad you like the dress! I am still thinking about it. It is a top contender, along with one other Badgley Mischka I have to find a picture of.

(I am hijaking my own thread... But while I have your attention, there is another issue I was hoping you''d chime in on. You were very helpful in the selection of my stone... Anyway, my set is all done, now I''m just wondering if I should have it miligrained or not. Please tell me what you think. THere are pictures in this thread.

Thread with pictures.

Thanks!

He, he... by now I am thinking how I'd tell my grandkids about it! Geez! How do you leave a place like this?

Hei, it ain''t my ring.
2.gif
You be the judge.

Not sure I would - millgrain is not only some innocent ornament (although it is used that way, of course) it was introduced and is effective to hide small imperfection of finish - you know, slightly crooked or indented edges. No such thing on your ring. So... it can be either way. I sort of feel that milgrained edges take wear better (i.e. little dings do not show as much as they would on a shiny polished edge) and the millgrain itself is quite enduring. Otherwise, entirely a matter of taste (either choice being perfectly good taste, as far as I am concerned).

Here''s one take at it. It was fun!

Ana -

I have no idea how you do that, but it is so accurate looking it''s scarey. I really appreciate it! And I do have to say I like the miligrain!

Even more tempting! Now I have something solid to think about!

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

hello again (on another thread :P)

I saw my *dream* wedding dress -- it''s a Vera Wang (I think bridesmaid dress!) and it''s something crazy expensive like around $4000. About $4000 over my budget (hahah just kidding) but seriously I have a tight budget, especially after splurging on Kasey for photography! My future-aunt-in-law has a wonderful, amazingly talented seamstress in LA that she swears by who I''m going to have the dress made by for a few hundred dollars. I''m also going to make a few adjustments to the bust area to make it a bit more modest and the original is pink so I want to change that as well.

Anyhow, the point of this post is that if you know a good seamstress you can have the same thing/similar thing with a bust adjustment
41.gif
made for much less...and if you want I can give you the contact information for the seamstress in LA.

Hey cushion cut,

I totally didn't mean to call you a 2-dress bride...I was just trying to stop my own mind from wandering to that Pronovias dress...
2.gif

That's wonderful that you got a store credit for your first dress! I think the pearls would be a fabulous use of the credit!
31.gif

I don't know how much you've looked around, but there are lots of places where you can get bridesmaid dresses in ivory that will look like an informal wedding gown. I love the gown you chose, but I would personally have a hard time spending $800 on it. (But I'm cheap...
20.gif
)

Have you checked out Nordstroms & BM dresses by Vera Wang, Lazaro, etc? You can check out my old wedding dress thread for some links.

Good luck!

ETA: Valeria, you're just amazing! Cushion cut, your ring looks fabulous with or without the millgraining!

Snow_happy,

Thank you for the tip, but I planned this elopement last minute. Don''t ask me why. We have been together for 10 years, and engaged for 15 months. All of the sudden about 3 weeks ago we were both just like, "Okay, lets elope next month," and we (I) pulled it together fast. So now there are only 10 days left. :)

I went back to Saks and ended up buying this dress! The smaller size fit perfectly, and was actually flattering on top, and not too much showing. These pictures don''t do it justice. It is really much prettier in person.

Anyway, that is not to say it''ll be the last dress I buy.
6.gif
I know I have gone nuts, but Saks has a great return policy (full refund) and I figured at least now I have something I love in hand...

I am still on the prowl for something cheaper. Fiance was not happy about this purchase.

But whoever said I''d feel like a million dollars, it''s Badgley Mischka, was totally right.
9.gif
There is just something fabulous about the cut, the brouches, the color, the way it moves...

Anyway, I''ll let you guys know if I turn up something cheaper - otherwise, this will be the one.

God help me if I become a "Three Dress Bride"

That''s a beautiful dress and its classic style will allow you multiple wears.
