I’m not actually in the market, but I probably will be in a couple of years when it’s time to get engaged. That said, I’m always looking at OECs for fun to understand what I want.

I find the faceting pattern on this to be quite striking. What I don’t love is that it’s a bit wide - though I think the setting complements it nicely.

What do you guys think?

The center stone and setting are very pretty! What do you mean that it's a bit wide?

Ditto diamondseeker2006 - it's very pretty. The face down shot makes it appear wide - but from the side, you can see that the sides are set at an angle.

It’s very pretty! Are you saying the setting is wide or the side stones are making it seem like the center is wider than the length? As in you’re wanting a perfectly round OEC and not a cushion like stone? This stone is 6.99x7.15mm. A .16mm difference is not going to make it off round is that’s what you’re wondering. I’m excited for you though! Getting an early start on your OECs. Have you looked at any in person?

That’s exactly it! I’m worried it’ll look like a cushion. But to your point, that’s not a big difference in size. I also think the setting is charming and a nice blend of modern and old-world.

Pricing-wise, do you think this is reasonably good value?

I tried on a 3 carat OEC a few weeks ago and thought it was divine. It was a bit too yellow (I think it was an M). I am not super colour sensitive but it did bother me. I also have size 4 fingers and despite DSS, I don’t think I need to go that big. It also had a noticeable bruise on the girdle, whereas this one looks clean.

This is what I tried on. It was an O. The setting was not to my liking. I was tempted to see what you guys thought about it until I realized that the colour wasn’t doing it for me.

On second thought, I don’t care for the stone. Facet pattern is pretty but at a certain angle, all the table facets turn off at the same time. Some people don’t mind a bit of wonk in their stones but I prefer a better cut OEC.

I am not color sensitive either. My current OEC is an L and the one I had prior was also an L. For me, that is the cutoff. When I go to M, I see color. But, if I was going to get a lower color, OP would be beautiful. But like you said, the O didn’t work for you. But the bigger the stone, the more color you’re going to notice.

How can you tell that they “turn off”? Is there something I can look for for future reference? Or was it just obvious to your expert eyes in the video?

I feel so fortunate to have found PS - when it comes to pick my ring (because I will) I know where to get the best advice.

I'm no expert  far from it. I only looked at the photos when I initially replied but after watching the video, you can see that table facets all go dark at once. Basically, you want them to take turns turning on and off.

We are also very glad that you found PS. Along with the help and the knowledge you will receive, its a place you can share your love for jewels without judgment.

Hehe I also looked at OECs and tried some on for at least a year before I got the actual ring (which is still somewhere in my house as SO hasn't proposed) but I'm so glad I did because it helped me decide what kind of OECs I liked! I think the facet pattern is very pretty about the petals turning on and off next to each other. I think you should look at them in person as much as possible to see what types of OECs appeal to you - smaller table, checkerboard pattern, etc

I would call this a transitional with a small table. If the table were larger I think it would have a strong checkerboard pattern. It's a beautiful stone. OECs are highly variable in their face up color, so seeing one M is not seeing all Ms.
