I need to put together a set of gemstones, both faceted and rough.

I don''t care what the colour or cut is like - they need to be about 1ct and have good inclusions. The rough just needs to be "typical" of it''s type.

The main thing is that they need to be cheap!

Any ideas where I could go to find such things?

Is there a vendor who could put a pack of nasty stones together for me do you think?

I don''t know where you can get roughs but as far as faceted stones, you can get some pretty cheap parcels from JTV. They have faceted gemstone parcels by weight, 50ct, 100ct, etc.

I know grab bag parcels of cut stones are easy to find on ebay. I''m sure the quality is pretty dodgy.

Pandora,
I have quite a bit of questionable rough and a number of native cut...ummm...crap. I could probably put together a pretty good selection. Problem is, I don''t know how to tell you to get in touch with me. I don''t think real email addresses or phone numbers are allowed on the forum. Any ideas?

Try multicolour.com and Thaigem. They deal with a lot of low-end stuff, and being in Bangkok, have access to the full range of material on the market.

Sadly not Jeff, but thanks for the kind thought!

I'm going to try some of the suggestions above - and a friend suggested I try the cutters on the gemology forums, as I'm a little worried that a pack from ebay may have either "those stones that shall not be mentioned here" or ones that don't have the inclusions that I am looking for.

I have quite a specific shopping list, as I need them for my course. They have a stone-lending library, but I'd prefer to have a permanent set.

No doubt I'll then start wanting a set of good examples of each. Oh well, I may as well start looking for that garret and resigning myself to a life of bread and water now!

Rock collecting can be a very addictive and expensive hobby, that''s for sure!

Don''t!

However, I do have a loathing of shoes and bags - so all my pennies go on one vice only!

Hi,

Send me your "wish list" and I''ll see what I can do to help. I may not be able to supply everything depending on what stones you need but we''ll see.
