Thanks to you guys on PS, I discovered etsy! (haha, I''d always thought etsy was for handsewn plush toys.....)

I''ve seen the gorgeous Lotus settings, and stacked bands, but I was wondering if anyone had ever bought anything from LaurieSarah (or LaurieSarahDesigns) on etsy?

I''d love to see pics!

I''m considering going custom, so I just wanted to get real-life hand pics of her work

(LaurieSarah does mostly e-rings, and wedding bands; not so much "everyday" jewelry)

Hey, I believe I had her make me some earring settings in yellow gold for my mom''s friend. Unfortunately, I can''t post pictures (the stones are synthetic alexandrites) but I can say that her work was very good. It was a simple drop earring setting, but for very large stones (think about 11-12 mm). It was very nicely done.

I haven''t bought anything from her but I have chatted with her a bit - I featured her on my photo blog and she offered me a discount on future purchases because of it. She''s really great and I wouldn''t hesitate to buy from her at all.

Ah, thanks, Brown Eyed! Good to hear...actually, I had a feeling that she''d be pretty good--according to our convos, she''s a jeweler and her hubby is a diamond supplier (or something like that)...not bad huh?

That''s great! She has beautiful stuff and you should start spending that discount NOW!! <-------(blatant enabling...)

So then, maybe I should get a blog too....

I found her on etsy too and came to PS to scope her out. Being in Colorado we don''t have many custom jewelers and I really like some of her designs. Good to know she''s well received.

Ooo I must look at her pieces! Anyone have a link pretty please?

I bought a setting I had to have customized from her.. I like it, but I kind of felt it was a bit pricey for what it is...

They look nice, but I agree. Pricey

I had a long conversation with her about setting one of my gemstones. She sourced a setting for me. . . but ultimately I felt she was too expensive and I bailed. I''ve watched her shop on and off since. It appears that she does a lot of business. I just felt her prices were too high for what I was going to get.

hmmmm....she sells a setting that is an EXACT match to my ering, which is a stock setting from Adiamor, but I have seen it in a couple small family-owned jewelery stores as well. Does she say she makes all her settings from scratch, or from molds? I''m too lazy to look again. Heh.

I think she said mine was ''hand made''. It is cast. I don''t know if maybe alterations make it hand made or what. My setting is not unique, as I have seen it in a couple of stores, and even LOGR has something similar lol!! It is nice, but as I said, the overall quality, weight, finishing, etc. dloesn''t seem to equate to the price I paid, which I think was over 1500.00.

That''s a shame ak - did you mention your reservations to her?
As long as you are happy with it?

I''ve seen this before, and I''m not fond of people passing off semi mounts as their own work on etsy - to me it lowers the tone of the site.
I mean, who is going to hand make multiples of diamond semi-mounts in all different sizes, than just wait around for someone to order them? She has quite alot of stock on her site.
It doesn''t make any business sense, hence I am very skeptical of the handmade claim.
imo, setting a stone or changing the size or other alterations does not in any way equate to hand made

Okay, sorry about the mini rant..

I highly suspect these mounts are coming from where ever LOGR, local jewellery stores etc all get theirs.

Ditto. Looks like very similar settings to LOGR/Jewe2004/jeweleryhoo.

She does need to lay off the PS after effects in her pics, too. Additional lense flare is really not necessary.

Looks like pretty stuff, but very pricey.

I see what you''re saying- they do look like semi mounts. Bummer! Just out of curiosity I was interested in the pear double halo (has pink tourmaline but I would want all diamonds) How over priced it this setting? Can I ask that?

I think she can make truly custom settings from scratch, but I''m not sure. I didnt'' go that route. She can source settings I believe. That is what she did for me. She sourced this setting. Siad she would get just the setting and put the diamonds that I wanted in it. But I suspect that she was either going to try to give it to me as is, or replace the diamonds. I''m not sure. Looking back in my convo some things stood out to me as not quite right. And therefore I couldn''t fork over that kind of $.

I personally didn''t find her designs very unique, they look like a lot of LOGR ebay settings etc.

For custom work I''m a big fan of Sally (Heartsofwater) and Julia (juliakaytaylor) both on etsy. I''m confident that both truly hand make their jewelery from scratch. And I think there''s something a little extra special about hand made jewelery!

It was strange to me too that her settings have the feel they do on Etsy... it somehow seems wrong. I know she has a pretty different feel, but Madeline at OneGarnetGirl did a custom job for me of bezel set colored stones, and she does really good work. Much more handmade feeling, though, than LaurieSarah. Different aesthetic, I suppose. I love them, though!

DITTO!! I started a thread on this in the colored stones forum a while ago. When I buy from Etsy, I''m imagining myself helping to support a hard-working artisan that is trying to make a living from their passion; LaurieSarah never mentions that she makes her own semi-mounts, and only mentions that her husband sets the stones.

For the markup, you''re getting 1)free sizing 2)free shipping 3)jewelery cleaner 4)a wood box and 5)coupons. To each their own, but I have to say no thanks! I''ll take a $300 LOGR with a $10 sizing fee over a $1200 ring without a sizing fee.
