I have a 1.70 carat I2 G. I have tried to post the pic but am having problems. In some pics it looks nice and sparkly, but in another it''s lifeless. Thanks-

You can post your pics but they might do better in one of the diamond forums and not the "colored stone" forum

Hi and welcome. This needs to be moved to Rocky talky. You posted in the colored stone forum. I will email the admin for you and ask that it be moved to the proper forum.

It''s confusing at first, we will be happy to help..

Hi san and welcome!

Are you planning on trading in this diamond and replacing it? Or just looking for answers on why it might be cloudy? Does the diamond also have a lab report such as GIA?

What does it look like in real life? That''s what''s most important. I''m kind of confused as to why you are concerned with pics of it.... Also, pictures rarely capture the true nature of a diamond, and all the sparkle.

Hello San,

Just to clarify... Are you trying to determine why the pictures you take of your diamond are cloudy in some instances while the diamond looks lively and sparkly in other pictures?

If so, the answers are endless and probably can''t be addressed accurately on the forum since photography is a very hands-on ability and the results are largely dependent on the experience of the photographer, the equipment being used and the lighting conditions...

What type of camera are you using? Is it an auto-focus / auto-aperture / auto-white balance, etc. in which case you''re likely to get different results every time you take a picture depending on what the camera is choosing to focus upon within the depth of field you are working within? Or are you using manual settings and a camera set on a tripod with controlled lighting, controlled shadows, controlled reflective surfaces, etc. in which case it is easier, but still a challenge to obtain results which are more likely to be duplicated?

If it is any consolation, I''ve been in the business since 1985 and photographing diamonds and jewelry for most of that time and I''m still challenged by it!

Thanks sooooo much everyone. I am out of the country and my ring was sent to my daughter . She took the pics of my ring with her digital camera so i could see it. So I won''t see it in person until December. She said it''s cloudy, but I was kind of exécting that being a I2 I''ve seen some decent diamonds of that clarity. She is going to take it to her jeweler. I just wanted more opinions and saw so much help here. Thanks again.

I realize that with you not seeing it until December, a return/exchange is probably going to be out of the question (if that was even being considered). However, if you are wanting a truly unbiased, expert opinion (for whatever reason), I would have her take it to an independant appraiser (one who does not sell jewelry). That will get you the most honest and accurate assessment. Just wanted to throw that out there. Good luck!

Thank you Ellen. I will tell her.
