Okay guys, I need your sleuthing help! I really just started gown shopping, but I saw this dress on BrideCouture and fell in love. I want to make sure that I love it in person, so I am trying to find it locally. BrideCouture lists it as an Amsale, but I can''t find it on their website. When I check BridePower, they have one VERY similar but list it as a Liv Harris (I can''t even find a website for that.) I''m thinking they may be the same dress but someone has the designer wrong.

So the question is...does anyone know this dress???

Here are the BrideCouture pics:

Close up of back from BrideCouture. See how it looks like it loops through itself?

Now the BridePower pics...

The back...

Close up of the back. Doesn''t it look like the sash is doing something similar to the first dress? It really seems like it could be the same dress with the sash tied slightly differently...

I really think that''s the same dress, only in different lighting or maybe a different colored sash?? For those who don''t know, the bride power site actually has a physical store in MA. If you''re in the Boston area, it''s called VOWS and I think it''s in Newton.

This might just be the coloring, but it looks to me like the quality of the satin is different from teh first to the second (plus the second has bridal beads over the zipper). But I know that when I tried on satin dresses from David''s bridal, the satin was kinda flat, whereas the dress I got (which is an Allure) the satin almost shimmers and is more silky.

The closest Amsale I could find isfrom the fall of 2006. I don''t know if you can still get it, but you could call salons that carry the company in your area, some companies continue making popular dresses. I know the one I am looking at premiered in 2002 but they still make it.

Hmm...that could definitely be it. Funny how a different color and a huge bow totally changes it.

Sabine, you are totally right about the beads. I don''t know how I missed that. And I see what you mean about the texture of the satin - maybe the second one was "inspired by" the first?

Has anyone ever seen the first one IRL?

Oh gtn, that one is pretty! Do you have any idea what those dresses run? It looks like there is a store a couple of hours away that carries the line, so I can call on Monday, but it''s Sunday now and I''m all excited!

that''s definitely not it, the dress in that link was my first love when i was trying on dresses, and the pics BigDiamonds posted are of a much older dress.

I would also say that the first and second dresses are different, the satin on the first dress is definitely higher quality than the second one.

i went to 2 amsale sample sales when i was in nyc, and to me that first dress is definitely the style of Amsale. But i think it''s definitely an older style that you wouldn''t find anywhere on a website. you can also tell its older by how wrinkly that sash is. but that long sash in the back with the 2 ends trailing behind is defintely amsale style.

i would venture to say that dress is at least 5 years old. are you concerned that it is a knock-off of an amsale? or do you really like the dress?

I''m not so much concerned about it being a knock-off, because I don''t really care about the designer thing. I actually have mixed feelings about the wrinkly sash, but I just really like the dress. I want some thing very simple and elegant that still has some sort interesting detail. Also, I can''t tell if it''s the lighting or the dress, but the color looks pinky, which is not what I want.

Maybe I should just go check out the Amsales my local place. I''m really not ready to buy, especially off of the internet. I have only tried on dresses at one place so far, and I found two decent options, but neither were the ONE.

I wore a dress almost identical to this when I was maid of honor for my friend''s wedding. Check out www.billlevkof.com. It was pretty but needs to fit tight to be flattering or you will appear very straight. (The sash is very thick as is the dress) Hope this helps! His dresses are very reasonable too!

PS. The dress by levkof is available with many different sash colors. We had a latte color which was beautiful. I also think he is pretty easy to find locally...

this is the same dress...you can see the color a little better, i think the sash on the one you posted is probably the same champagne color.

i would definitely say go try on a bunch more dresses. you will get a feeling for what you like and dislike, and then if you want to go the online route, you will know for sure whether you will like the dress you buy. Ebay has TONS of great options. Definitely go to the higher-end stores if you are planning on buying a higher-end dress online. You can try on a lot of the same dresses in the store that you see online. I know I went to the Amsale store to try on one that I had specifically seen on ebay, and i''m glad i did because i hated it on me!!

good luck on your dress search and be sure to take a camera and post your pictures!! dress threads are always favorites

I tried on a couple of these types of dresses--I know one was Vera Wang and the other was...I can''t remember, but I think it was Monique Lhuillier. The two dresses posted are definitely different--the first appears to be satin and the second looks like silk. The only way I could really tell, though, was that the first dress had no buttons and the second did. When I was trying on dresses this time last year, a simple a-line with a colored sash seemed to be pretty ubiquitous. If you went to a bridal salon I bet they would have some options by several designers, you might even be able to get a big discount on last year''s designs.

I forgot to mention earlier how much I this dress style, as you could see, there are a lot of similar dresses.

I have no idea of the cost of the MT dress. I can tell you that the Amsale dress is not going to be cheap. My guess is about $3500 starting. The material will be expensive but very nice.

As others have mentioned, go and try on as many dresses as you can. You might be able to find a knockoff style that you love too. good luck.

Thanks everyone! I haven''t seen anything like this yet, but maybe it''s the places that I have been going. It seems like everything is very beaded or lacey, which is not what I''m looking for.

I''m just really drawn to that Amsale, but that eBay page says spring 2005. I may have trouble finding it to try on.

I will keep you all updated - thanks for the help!

Maybe I will start another thread with the two that I liked and you all can suggest others that I should try...
