First I wanted to say that the last thing I want is to start another debate about what consititutes an appropriate wedding gift.
After reading this article: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080303/ap_on_re_us/bankruptcy_gift_cards
I would recommend that you either choose cash or a present since a lot of companies file for chapter 11 when you least expect it and may never come out of it. I know macy''s files for it all the time, but many don''t come out of it.

Wow! That sucks!!! We got a lot of gift cards, but not for there, and we''ve already spent almost all of them. I would recommend that if you do give them, give them to a store where the couple is registered because they will then probably use them more quickly to get things they didn''t receive but wanted. That''s what we did, anyway.

macy''s isn''t going anywhere. Nor are the major retailers that most brides get gift cards from, including Crate & Barrel, Williams-Sonoma, Pottery Barn, etc. Yes, I wouldn''t give a gift card from a little mom and pop shop (but I might buy a gift from said smaller retailer), but the big boys aren''t going anywhere.

I would have considered Sharper Image to be more of a big boy! I''m shocked!

We really appreciated our gift cards. We combined a couple to get ourselves new plates and glasses. Although I must admit that at almost one year, we still have a few we''ve, ah, horded.

Guess we''d better use ''em up right quick!

I wasn''t really shocked to hear they are going under. They''re so expensive for most things.
