Hi all! Can someone help me out here please. I am trying to use the dot test, or letter tests on an antique stone, emerald cut. What does it supposed to look like? Everywhere are given examples on round brilliants, but an emerald has a bigger table, so what it this supposed to look like?

Dot test don’t work for a lot of reasons on older cuts and to my knowledge never work on emerald or other step cuts. I’d you want to verify, I’d buy a diamond tester online or from Amazon If that’s an option.

Take it into a jeweler to verify.

Tests positive with diamond tester.

Do you have the stone on the metal plate that came with the tester?

Tested with prong holder. I started another thread on this topic because said stone is an antique stone fancy colored purplish color.

Pursuing this “opportunity” has exactly one outcome: You throwing your money away. Please at least limit the loss to a small amount spent on a GIA report, not a significant amount scuppered on the actual stone.
