Dress Shopping in NYC - no appointment?

My maid of honor is flying in for this weekend, so we want to go dress shopping a little! My wedding is a year and a half away though, and I don''t have a budget or anything, so I don''t expect to actually buy a dress this weekend, so I don''t want to go to the trouble of setting up an appointment anywhere fancy. So my question is - where can I go without an appointment on a Saturday afternoon and try on some dresses?? Somewhere that has nice dresses, that hopefully won''t be tooo busy, and will let me try things on without an appointment? Does anything like that exist in the city?? Thanks!

It is highly recomended that you have an appointment. Some of the designer stores won''t even let you look without one...

Yeah I know...but since I wasn''t planning on buying anything this weekend, I would rather NOT go to a designer store and just go to a smaller boutique that would permit me to try things on without an appointment...does anyone know of a place like that?
