Does anyone know the difference between:

mermaid
trumpet skirt
slim A-line

???

Thank you, I''ve looked at the FAQs on places like theknot.com and cannot seem to get an answer. The Pronovias I liked was sort of mermaid-y, but then I read it was "slim A-line," but it looks a bit like pics of Watters trumpet-skirt gowns...

It was a great fit on me and I''d like to know what it actually *was*

This (rather helpful) website defines "mermaid" and "trumpet":

Wedding Dress Skirts

I'm thinking slim a-lines are just a-lines with less "flare", more on the sheath-y side. My gown is called a "modified a-line" by the designer, but it seems like a slim a-line.

Hm. Maybe it was a slim a-line with just a tiny bit of flair then...because the skirt didn''t fit as tightly as it seems mermaid ones do, and didn''t flare quite as dramatically either.

which pronovias is it rainbow? their dresses are so gorgeous

India.. There''s a pic on the Knot and on their website under the Dreams collection.

It''s tied with two other dresses I love...none of which I can afford. THe other two are Cymbeline, Vermouth and Trianon.

From the pictures (on ebay), it looks like a mermaid. It seems too "fitted" through the hips and butt to be an a-line.

Ebay link with pictures (it's listed at $697, which isn't bad!):

...or it could be a trumpet. I always thought they were the same so I just refer to them as "mermaid" cuts.

EBree, is that ebay link legit? When I looked last time there was no picture and it seemed a bit sketchy. It''d be great to be able to maybe get the dress for that price, but...
Admittedly, I know little about ebay other than the PS warnings to stay away from it for diamonds.

Right now I''m still hooked on my new interest in sewing, so I''m going to delude myself for a few months into thinking there might be a way to make one of these dresses myself (probably for a similar amount of money as the ebay price, honestly, if you count basic materials plus fabric). I just wanted to know the silhoutte so that if I a) try to make it I know and b) go look at other dresses I can request it.

Unfort the India is the hardest to make of the three I think, although the Vermouth is a close second.

By the way Ebree, that is the most *adorable* picture of that puppy! I''ve been thinking that since you changed it awhile ago.

I''ve attached the other two dresses, both of which are A-lines, although I''m not sure about the Vermouth.
